Watch: 30 minutes of Total War: Thrones of Britannia
Guessing campaign map performance is going to be fairly similar to TW: Warhammer 2 then? Given that it looks like a (admittedly pretty) re-skin? My 8700k/1080TI still takes an absolute pounding at 1440p :( |

Here's the first in-game footage of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' new desert map
@Sojiro84 It's interesting, actually: the fact that PUBG doesn't have a typical progression system, or tier-gated abilities and weapon access, is a strong part of the appeal for me, personally. |

GTFO is a co-op shooter with an Aliens vibe
@ambershee Yeah, it was looking fairly promising until the first mob of enemies showed up. Also, once the initial titters fade, the title is just fucking stupid. |

Jelly Deals: H1Z1 is this month's Humble Monthly early unlock
Yeah was surprised (and a little saddened as I've stopped my sub) by Shadow Tactics being in there: absolutely the star of the show and a game I've been meaning to pick up. I'm actually a bit shocked that they didn't headline it, as the headliners have been consistently fucking shite (or just very old) for some time now. |

Here's a decent look at Star Wars: Battlefront 2's single-player campaign
I'm growing concerned that, what with my paucity of leisure time, I may not be able to experience this content in full. If only there was some ingenious mechanism by which I could exchange genuine coins of the realm to circumvent the time investment necessary. Alas, I fear big publishers are simply too focused on putting out a high-quality product than they are about considering the essential gaming needs of my particular demographic. |

The Evil Within 2 shines on PS4 - but Xbox One and PC fall short
@Darren Yeah, I did also notice it on the copyright text. Interestingly, setting the resolution to 1080p resolves the issue, so I'm guessing that it's trying (and failing) to upscale when playing at 1440p? It's only a small thing, granted, but irritating nonetheless. |

I seem to have been quite fortunate, having avoided any FPS issues at 1440p so far, but there is a really weird issue with loading screen and menu text, which is both jagged and crude... |

PC gamers hope for improvements after hackers and performance issues mar the Call of Duty: WW2 beta
An additional slight technical issue that perhaps impacted the PC Beta is that the game is fucking shit. Hopefully they can iron that particular snag out prior to launch. |

I absolutely loved this as an early-teenager. Still gutted I lost my big box version :( A truly phenomenal adventure game, and one of the best uses of a license I can call to mind. |

Bungie removes "hate symbol" from Destiny 2
@UKRaver1980 I genuinely had no idea that 'Kek' had been appropriated as a 4Chan meme. I'd always just associated it with WoW; bit taken a back to read these connotations. |

Black Mirror reboot in the works
@ongrui lol yeah. I think playing Dark Seed 2 as a twelve year old genuinely scarred me for life. That was properly fucked up :) |

Played through all three games in the Black Mirror series many years ago. Not without their flaws, but I enjoyed them thoroughly. Mind you, it was point and click adventure gaming that initially got me into PC gaming in my pre-teen years, so I'm possibly a bit bias when it comes to assessing the genre. |

Performance Analysis: Doom beta on PS4 and Xbox One
Will be interested to see the PC analysis. Incidentally, I mentioned this in the DOOM thread as well, what the fuck is it with Bethesda PC games and mouse/input lag on the menus? Over the course of their last few titles, which I played across three different PC systems (1 x latop, 2 x desktops), it seems to constantly crop up. It's like moving the cursor through sludge when trying to negotiate the menus - had it in Skyrim, in FO4 and now in DOOM :( |

Star Wars Battlefront patch adds film grain, new map, mission
@WallyHale Ah but you need to realise: I am a complete scrub at these games, so I wouldn't take my perception as indicative of any objective quality :) |

For what it's worth I've really enjoyed Turning Point, so I'm happy they've opened it up on the other maps. I certainly don't regret purchasing Battlefront at launch; I've had tons of fun with it and I still play a couple of games most evenings. That being said, it is very much a fun side-attractions in FPS terms: I tend to go to Destiny (PS4) or Black Ops 3 (PC) when I want more 'serious' shooting action. |

Fallout 4 DLC revealed, season pass price hike announced
I don't know exactly what it was about Fallout 4, but it simply didn't gel with me. Picked it up at launch, sunk maybe 13-17 hours into it, but my interest evaporated so quickly. Honestly, I can't recall ever losing interest so soon and so rapidly in a game I had just purchased - I was left just feeling completely aimless and, dare I say, bored after 5 or so sessions. Very strange indeed; I thoroughly enjoyed Fallout 3, spent many many hours with it, likewise in the case of Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim, but for some reason this one didn't remotely leave an impression. I'll try again in a few months, I guess - I'm sure there must be something good in there... |

Discworld author Terry Pratchett dies aged 66
There is a scene in 'The Light Fantastic', if I recall correctly, where a particular wizard of Unseen University is trying his level best to ward off Death, who is undoubtedly on his way. It goes on for about four pages of in-depth description of all the charms and incantations he painstakingly lays out. The outcome to that particular scene still brings tears of laughter to my eyes even to this day (some 20 years later). |

Kickstarter Funding Unsuccessful for Ecco the Dolphin man Ed Annunziata
Hmmm, was their initial kickstarter video the one that was a load of pretentious shite? I seem to recall seeing something that was heavy on the verbose rhetoric and pseudo-intellectual terminology, but perhaps I'm thinking of something else. I quite liked Ecco back in the day. Was a youngster and there was something quite atmospheric by that ambient soundtrack on my cousin's TV/megadrive. |
