EGX 2017: Ten of the best games from the show floor

DanSmith09

@pelican_ Wembley can check 90k attendees. If the event is too big to be properly secured then we are looking at it being scaled back sadly.

@pelican_

1. Destiny 2 and other AAA games.

2. When I was there on the Saturday they basically didn't check any wrist bands, everyone just got waved in. If you wanted to you could have sneaked in. No bag checks either which shocked me a little bit, should be considered a standard thing that is done at any big gathering these days.

3. Only burgers I saw were £11 and you had to wait 30-40 minutes to get your order. Central London prices in Birmingham, unimpressed.

@Gemini_73 They should either sell less tickets or have more machines there. Ultimately these things are about maximising profit rather than actual putting on a good quality exhibition that people will enjoy.

3 hour queues for the main games.

Charging £11 for lunch.

Lax security.

Lets say I was unimpressed with my EGX experience this year.

The patch still hasn't fixed the broken AI. Really bad and I'm disappointed such a glaring problem with the game has not been sorted yet. Can anyone at Eurogamer raise this with Firaxis please?

My four main games this autumn have been FIFA, F1 2016, FM 2017 and Civ 6. I simply don't have the time (and money to a lesser extent) to play other games very much. I am very slowly going through Dishonoured 2.

4K PC gaming is finally viable - and it's stunning

DanSmith09

@mostro We aren't talking about the VAST majority of people though. The 4K market is going to be quite niche (how many people really want to spend £800+ on a graphics card?) but what this article is pointing is that it IS possible to play 4k at 60 FPS on a realistic system, something that wasn't the case as recently as 18 months ago.

And quite simply you are wrong about the benefits of higher resolutions, I've upgraded from 1080 to 1440 recently, and it is clearly, objectively better.

Paradox, this is why we need to talk about your mods

DanSmith09

If you provide the possibility for players to mod your game, it becomes your responsibility to curate those mods.
What ?! That line of argument means we'd end up with no modding capabilities because no software developer will want to take on the risk. Silly, SILLY argument Eurogamer.

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey: "We don't make money on the Rift"

DanSmith09

@jetsetwillie But it's not just the fact the VR set itself is expensive. The other equipment required (the desktop pc) to use it is expensive as well. As much as I would it to happen, I can't see people in their droves dropping a grand on a top end graphic and OR headset. Not going to happen.

DanSmith09

@Mhoey you have to wonder what Facebook is thinking though, you aren't going to get many casual tech people buying OR. The pricing means pretty much the only people who are going to buy it are top end gamers.

@spamdangled It is for Sony and Microsoft because the other sources of revenue are well established. How is OR going to make money here?

Ken Levine's next game is a "small-scale open world"

DanSmith09

"The AAA, single-player narrative game is starting to disappear," Levine explained. "Kind of games like BioShock. There's fewer of them being made.
This isn't really true is it?

gamers are saying pretty loud and clear that if they're going to spend $40, $50, $60, they want an experience that lasts more than 10-12 hours.
It depends really. I wouldn't want every game I buy to only last 10-12 hours, but at the same time, there are only so many 50-60 hour games I can play as well.

DanSmith09

@Rogueywon the first point here is that we're talking about a tiny amount of tax payers money, £2.4m from the overall EU budget is tiny. Statistically insignificant.

Secondly if subsidies are able to boost an industry, there are numerous benefits to society and you the tax payer.

Logitech confirms a new wheel for PS4 - and reveals a new Xbox One contender too

DanSmith09

@porkface It gets even more confusing if you look at the product page for the g29: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-gb/product/g29-driving-force?wt.ac_id=global_news_g29_06112015 says there that the wheel DOES work on PC. So I don't know what to think anymore.

DanSmith09

My understanding of the press release is that the G29 is only compatible with the PS4. If you want a wheel for the PC, you will have to wait until October for the G920.
