Punching Nazis

CrispyLog

@dedhead

Wait how can you say the extremist left campaigned for neo-liberalism? Neo-liberalism is the right wing Thatcher's method of taking public ownership (a left wing idea) and privatising it for profit (a right wing idea) and reducing regulations and tax on big business whilst suppressing workers' right and trade unions.

If you think that is what extremist left wingers want then you have got it all completely wrong. It is a right wing ideology of putting profit over people and creating more inequality.

There's a lot of neo-nazi's and hate still about. If the past decades of constant arguments against them, them being seen as bad guys and pointing out how mentally evil the holocaust was hasn't killed the idea then maybe punching and disrupting them from having platforms is a legitimate recourse.

@Murton If you want good abandoned places find some National Grid vacant land. They own an amazing amount of land, loads of it used to have gas holders or offices that they stopped using 30 years ago so the places gave overgrown. I was in one in the centre of Halifax that had just turned into a birch forest with a couple lampposts and tarmac tracks in between. In Birkenhead there is one with numerous abandoned buildings full of trees and plants like it's own contained apocalypse.

But isn't that how modern gaming works anyway? Hundreds of people slave over a product but often before they have chance to 100% finish it the game is snatched from them by the publisher to meet a target deadline and flogged with all future revenue going to the publisher and none going to the individual programmers who created it outside of their standard salary.

Half-Life 2: 10 years on

I loved the minimalism. No map, no objective marker, no objective screen, no on screen mission statement, no cutscenes, no inventory. Just 100% immersion. You follow your path, hear someone say you should go to the lighthouse, get stuck at a gate and see it needs power so follow the cables back then find the missing batteries and physically pick them up and place them in the socket. Nothing takes you out of it, and that's just one small and often overlooked aspect of this masterpiece they perfected.

@Mr-Writer It's "cool" to hate TLOU, really? Every man and his dog has been calling GTAV overrated a couple weeks after release and loads of people have been saying Bioshock is shit. Seems that TLOU is the only game that it's not cool to hate as I can't recall seeing many people bashing it. Just compare the reaction to this article about TLOU being GOTY compared to the reaction to the one with Mario winning and then tell me it's "cool" to hate TLOU.

"Why should we ask how long a game is?"

CrispyLog

He just said that the game being 3-4 hours long is a good thing because it means they don't repeat anything and keep your curious. So surely that means game time is important as if the game was 20 hours long it would be reusing the same stuff and you'd get bored of it. Look at Skyrim, if that was only 10 hours long you'd feel cheated, this whole open world and all these skills and levels but after 10 hours you've completed every quest and there's no need to play it. Same games need to be long and some need to be short. It is important.

Assassin's Creed 3 sells over 7 million units

CrispyLog

3 billion assassinations, so everyone who has bought the game has done an average of 500 assassinations in singleplayer, really? If that's true then it's rocking a bigger kill count than most action packed shooters, and that's just assassinations and not gun kills and such! Not much of a stealth/assassin game then and more a bloodbath.

Adverts and the new Xbox 360 dashboard

CrispyLog

There does seem to be too many adverts and for stuff I'm not interested in, like the new COD or map packs for the old COD or new songs for some dancing game I don't own. If they were just DLC for games I own and new XBLA games I'd be much happier.

As such I find myself using the dashboard a lot less. I used to browse it to see what new free videos were up (Inside XBOX etc) and what new XBLA games were out, but now they are buried in all the adverts.

Saturday Soapbox: Death of the MMORPG

CrispyLog

MMOs so excited me. Imagine a fantasy world where you can buy some supplies then head off into the wild world and make your own house and farm and then other players move out and a little village is created by players and it grows. The shops are owned by real players and the shopkeeper is another player working for some coin and if you steal from him the guards (also players) will take you to prison.

None of that has happened, there is so much potential to make mentally awesome games and it's just squandered.
