Fortnite Battle Royale is heading to mobile devices very soon, features PS4 and PC cross-play

Cosmitz

@ibz100 PUBG is really just a poor game. Sure, it has a good core concept, but the execution is shit. Fortnite has a hardened core of veteran developers in a cohesive company that could polish that concept to a mirror shine and do the work. Bluehole is just in over its head.

Now if only Fortnite had a no-build mode.

To be fair, the 'university' economist left a few years ago, the 'wrestler' isn't exactly on staff but the band is real.

@Euphiletos Go to the tram system wherever you are, (usually through the large oval entrances) and on the actual black board/interface/monitor on it, you will have some floaty destinations to interact with.

Paradox teams up with Eugen for ultra hardcore WW2 RTS Steel Division

Cosmitz

Eugen and Paradox? Jesus Christ, that's a team-up. While Act of War Agression is nice, they're more well known for the mindblowing Wargame series. Mix that up with Paradox's everything and.. my interest is piqued.

@The-Doctor We started to hit problems which couldn't be solved computationally. At the same time you also saw the rise of Amazon's Mechanical Turk program, and a modern day example is captcha. Humans can solve those kind of issues a lot easier and more efficiently.

Today's the historic day Eve Online goes free

Cosmitz

There's a fantastic lot to do in Eve Online without being an Omega. It's almost never about 'having all the best shit', and often about just you, as a player, interacting with the world. Almost anything can happen out there, stories unfolding each minute out of each day. And you can interact with any of them, in any way you see fit.

Ignore everything you think about Eve and approach with the mentality that you can do anything you set out to do, no matter your skillpoints or your ship.

After 13 years, Eve Online will become free to play

Cosmitz

@matt27 Actually, it will. You can sit and chat with your old corp mates, have a walk around and see how stuff changed, maybe do a few lowlevel DED sites for the fuck of it in a T1 cruiser.

@AmorousBadger Given that it's going free, give it a spin. It's worth the 15gb on your HDD if only to wait for a big thing to happen and then know you can just Set Destination and be there, and see it unfold.. maybe participate.

@Mik3yB MkX is as 'prime' as Street Fighter, as in they don't take chances with 'fun' fighters. They're outright hardcore fighting games.

If you were to.. Focus on the tail (tailswipes/implaes) and claws. Have it move low to the ground and give it some environmental teleport attacks. The more individual hits it takes, the more it bleeds acid and can harm the opponent.

Why I'm tired of Fallout 4 encumbrance

Cosmitz

Weapons and armor i can manage and that's fun. But fuck managing Aid and those sneaky 1 weight Misc items. How many piles of this particular steak i want, and how many of that type of steak, and wait, this one is 1 weight, this one is 0.5 weight, and oh.. those cans are more expensive than the Mutt roast i make and do the same thing.

Seriously, aid has been convoluted since Fallout 3. In New Vegas i just drank purified water and ignored the rest.

Here's new Mirror's Edge: Catalyst gameplay

Cosmitz

@The_shlaaaag_returns

I thought the exact same thing. It feels like Dying Light, where you're just a wall-grabing-hovering entity.

The first Mirror's Edge had /weight/, your limbs were always getting in the way of the frame and you didn't just quickly jump up/down. Even the lowliest jump had you at least keeling to raise to standing again.

This just feels waaaaay too floaty. Alpha et all, but they were confident enough to share so this might be locked in.

Star Citizen's Chris Roberts doffs hat to Elite: Dangerous

Cosmitz

@Dysonism One launched, is playable, and pretty fun. One is still getting built in between the company also building the first person shooter that should accompany it, hosting weekly talkshows and still far away from a LOT of features they promised initially, let alone the ones that came as milestones.

Your choice really.

Anyone else sad they lost the wireframe model? It was amazing how much was left to the imagination when all you saw of the world was those wireframed levels. Even the action, bloody fights, destruction everywhere, all sanitized by the black display, now are shamelessly shown and found lacking.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion pushes on despite trademark battle

Cosmitz

People don't understand that trademark law dictates that you have to defend your trademark or it can be trampled on after the fact by anyone else. This will probably not matter and they'll pay a meaningless amount of money to use the word. The thing is, if they don't and later, there's a game called "Shooter Sniper By Rebellion" they can't do a thing about it.

Harmonix lays off 37 staffers, replaces CEO

Cosmitz

@SubPixel It's a Catch 22. That sum was just HALF. The other half would have been got off a publisher. Thing is, the Kickstarter was not a blockbuster hit, and just barely made it. What that means is that the publisher didn't get the vote of confidence that it actually had an audience and probably pulled out. Thus, Harmonix had to downsize to keep all the games on track.

Microsoft congratulates Sony on its PS4 launch

Cosmitz

@darkmorgado Why wouldn't they? Aside from the mostly-fictional world of cut-throat business deals behind closed doors and rampant personal crusades the industry as a whole is pretty pleasant.

Especially now, when all the cards are on the table, all that's left is seeing how all the hard work you've done will pay off. So yes, a sincere 'good job mate' between professionals that know exactly how much it took to get to this point is something natural. It's nice that it's getting the press though, since this facet is mostly gleamed over.

People are just people.

A horror game within an Oculus Rift game?

Cosmitz

@SpaceMidget75 I remember reading they haven't solved that yet, the whole mechanism is hard to replicate and i think they may just go down a route of ironsights for one eye and bleeding it in the other one. For short, what i played of Hawken at Gamescom, there were no sights, and the line of movement with the Rift was limited. Hard to explain, but for short, shooters are not going to feel at home with the first wave of Rift games.

APB Vendetta to be a PC and PS4 persistent online "extreme mobility" shooter, not scooter

Cosmitz

APB had two, and exactly two, great things. The first was coustomizability. What you could do in it is still unmatched.

Second, was the amazing pseudo-freerun criminal chases. Seriously. Knocking doors over, jumping fences, sliding down roofs all while engaged in a high speed chase with another player was just brilliant. NYPD Blue Online. I don't know why but i got hooked on that.

Mass Effect 3 ending controversy saddens BioShock creator

Cosmitz

"If computer games are art than I fully endorse the author of the artwork to have a statement about what they believe should happen," he said.
"Just as J.K. Rowling can end her books and say that is the end of Harry Potter. I don't think she should be forced to make another one."

That is NOT the same thing.

A linear shooter where the experience is the same for evreyone? Sure. A TV series? Sure. A movie? Sure. A book? Sure.

But when you actually create a story within the confines of a structure that is offered to you, YOU should have a say, or atleast be content with how it ends. It becomes a collaborative storytelling experience and is no longer purely the original creator's.

I'm shocked industry veterans cannot see or understand this point of view.
