Torment: Tides of Numenera debuts its first gameplay footage

ChronoTravis

@null I don't quite know why your comment is being downvoted. I don't think the developers have stated just how long the game will be, but I am sure it will be long; maybe not as long as Torment, which was longer than most, but Numenera will still be a good length RPG.

Gosh darn, this game looks great. I love the art-style and smooth animations, and the overall slick presentation that really invokes Planescape: Torment.

Bethesda reveals starry Elder Scrolls Online cast

ChronoTravis

I hope this doesn't mean that all of the characters will sound British. I always liked that Elder Scrolls games have diverse accents, sine Tamriel is an entire continent it wouldn't make sense for everyone to speak the same way. The people in fictional fantasy worlds always seem to sound English, and it does get a bit old.

Man, I am becoming very excited for this game. I love the visual style and what little we know of the story. It also seems to be exploring some interesting themes, and the voice cast is great so far. It could rival the best of Lucas Arts' golden years.

Sony on PS4: "the format war is a marathon, not a sprint"

ChronoTravis

At present, I am really most intrigued by the Steam Box; but between the Xbox One and PS4, I'd go with the latter, if only for the lower price. If there is a model of Steam Box that can match, or come close to matching, the performance of the two consoles, and has a comparable price, then It's a no-brainer for me.

I am glad to see that they are trying to make TSO feel like a real Elder Scrolls game, as well as being a good MMO. I didn't get the point of making a MMO set in the TES world, if they were only going to make it a typical, generic WOW-esque RPG. It seemed like a wasted opportunity. They seem to be headed in the right direction now . Also, not to sound misogynistic or anything, but Maria Aliprando is lovely.

Is the most disturbing scene in GTA 5 justified?

ChronoTravis

This kind of thing is the reason that I have always had reservations about playing GTA games (I've not tried once wince the old top-down GTA2). The games force you to play as a bad guy, and make you do bad and very uncomfortable things. Sure, you can be optionally more evil, but by default, you are still a bad guy. I have killed a lot of bandits in Skyrim, but the context there is completely different. Those bandits are already predisposed to being violent and criminal minded, and they always attack the player on sight. It's a lot different from the up close-and personal torture scene in GTAV which you can't even choose to avoid.

Disappointing Star Trek game "emotionally hurt" JJ Abrams

ChronoTravis

Tie-in games don't HAVE to suck, but they usually do. I say give the next one to a company like Obsidian or Telltale Games, because those guys would really know how to use the universe and characters, and would have a good grasp on how to translate it into compelling game-play :). Also, the Star Trek game was't really that bad, it was a competent shooter, once bugs were fixed. It wasn't very memorable, but not terrible either.

ChronoTravis

I actually like Major Nelson, in-spite of my misgivings on certain Xbox One features; He seems like a nice guy. The once-a-day connection is really the only thing that is holding me back on the Xbox One. I can turn off the kinect if I don't want to use it, and the TV stuff purely optional. Also, Chloe Dykstra is super hot.

Xbox One: developers have their say on specs, self-publishing and TV TV TV

ChronoTravis

It seems like all of this judgement is very premature, as the Xbox One was just unveiled, and we just because they didn't go into detail about opportunities for indie developers, that doesn't mean that there won't be any. I'm sure as MS unveils more games, we will get a better sense of where it stands as a gaming console, and so I will reserve my judgement until then. All of these statements by developers about their intent to focus on PS4, seem very knee-jerk. I think it is actually smart for MS to diversify the multi-media aspects of their new console, and I don't think that extra TV and motion sensor options necessarily come at the expense of the gaming experience. In the current market, a system that 100% focused on just games might not be super successful. Although that sounds strange to hardcore gamers, most consumers and gamers alike, are not hardcore in their gaming, and MS and Sony do have to focus on those folks to, if they are going to turn any kind of a profit. I will add that I think that any console that allows for full steam integration, will win.

Planescape: Torment producer Guido Henkel working on a new RPG called Deathfire

From an interview that I read, Henkel's role in Planescape: Torment was more administrative; dolling out responsibilities, keeping watch on milestones and keeping the game on budget. He's best known for his work on the Arkania games, so I would imagine that this new one will be closer to those than to Torment :).

Bethesda re-releasing The Elder Scrolls: Arena for tablets and phones?

ChronoTravis

Arena has very old game design sensibilities, and I'm not sure that many modern gamers, who are spoiled by quest compasses and neat quest journals, will be able to get into it. One of the series hallmarks is the ability to level up individual skills as you use them, and this features was not introduced until Daggerfall, which is a better game all the way. I'm hoping this is some kind of HD edition of the game, with enhancements.

This game sounds awesome, and I really like CDPR, but their trash talking of Bethesda/Skyrim is starting to get a bit obnoxious, in all honesty. It makes them seem a bit arrogant, and they should probably just focus on discussing what the game will be, rather than how they feel it will be different or superior to Skyrim. I'm sure that their game will improve upon Skyrim in many areas, but it also has the added benefit of coming after, and they can improve upon what they saw in Skyrim, in the same way that Skyrim improved on preview Elder Scrolls entries.

US bill attempts to make video game age ratings legally binding

ChronoTravis

Overall violent crime rates in the US have been decreasing since the early 1990's. It peaked in the 80's, and I don't think that Pac-Man and Space Invaders were causing people to kill each-other back then. The only link they have is that some of the mass shooters over the years were known to play some video games, but some of them weren't, and the Sandy Hook shooter played Starcraft...which isn't exactly Call of Duty. Just about everyone plays video games these days, so by that logic, there should be a lot more mass murders than there are, if games are what is causing this. This weak link is all that is needed by people who want a quick and neat scapegoat to go after, so they don't have to tackle the real underlying causes.
