Meet the man with 1200 Platinum trophies

Bombonera

I myself recently passed 500,000 Xbox gamerscore, which is roughly the equivalent of 500 Platinum trophies. I empathise with a lot of this guy's views. With him having the world's highest total of Platinum trophies, I would have thought Sony would give some kind of recognition. Stallion83, who has the highest gamerscore in the world (and has for years), gets rewards from Microsoft that have included free games and a complementary Xbox Live lifetime subscription.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas sneaks onto PS3

@null Completely agree. San Andreas is still the best in the series. I remember I kept the game in my PS2 disc drive for a whole year after it came out. Must have played it every single day during that span.

I have a flashcart for the original DS that I got 6 years ago. It's brought me pure unadulterated joy. I've held off on buying the Gateway as I wanted to see if any bricking issues like this would arise. Seems I was prudent to adopt that cautionary approach :)

World of Warcraft expansion Warlords of Draenor confirmed

Bombonera

In the days of post launch through to The Burning Crusade, WoW was comparable to, if not better than, sex. Subsequent expansions have not reached the same heights for me but there are still few better feelings than seeing that shiny piece of orange armor drop into your inventory. I am sure the Draenor expansion will be eagerly anticipated by most people who are still playing the game.

Ubisoft: Splinter Cell, Rayman Legends missed sales targets

Blacklist was a solid 7/10 game but nothing more. There was nothing about it that made it stand out amongst the crowd of other games released this year. I fear the Splinter Cell franchise could be on its last legs now. It's never really recovered from Double Agent.

Amazing review and excellent comments too guys. I'm not sure I understand the hate for Dawn of War series from some commenters though. I thought DoW II in particular was the best strategy game of its year of release, 2009. Comparing it to Starcraft is a classic case of apples and oranges.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay retrospective

Bombonera

Butcher Bay is one of the few games from the PS2-Xbox-GC era that I'll never banish from my collection. I rate it as probably the 2nd best title on the console after KOTOR. I don't think I've ever been as surprised by a game as I was when I first played BB back in August 2004. I expected a solid movie tie-in; it turned out to be one of the best games of its generation. I'd really like to see more Riddick games in the future. All has been quiet from Vin and Starbreeze in that regard though.

Hitman: Absolution review

Bombonera

I've played and beaten the campaign on Professional and, honestly, I think it's a rental or bargain bin pickup. You can plough through it all in about 10 hours. I'm a series veteran so I didn't have much trouble with it, but there might be a learning curve to overcome if you're new to Hitman. There's just not enough content there to justify a 40 purchase in my opinion.

Simon isn't afraid to give honest scores to major titles. I applaud him hugely for that. Didn't he give Gears 3 and Uncharted 3 8 out of 10s when most sites were giving them 10? I remember richlemar and CliffyB (lead designer on UC3 and Gears 3 respectively) actually releasted statements criticising Simon's reviews for those games. That was amusing. Wonder if we'll see similar sentiments from a Capcom developer.

How do you get a job in the game industry? "Give yourself one," Valve tells us

Bombonera

It's all well and good saying a novice programmer can code a game in their bedroom and get noticed. Thing is, making blockbuster games requires a team of hundreds of people, thousands of man hours and millions of dollars. Why would anyone want to play a basic game someone made in their bedroom when they could play Call of Duty or Halo instead? To define that as a David v Goliath task would be an understatement.

Notch did it with Minecraft, but that's an exceedinly rare exception.

Retrospective: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

It doesn't feel like 8 years since SA came out. I remember that I had the disc in my PS2 drive from the day it came out up until early October 2005, so just shy of a full year. I absolutely loved every second of it. Loved the bikes, cars, planes and helicopters. Awesome soundtrack too. Just edges out Vice City as the best in the series for me.

Take-Two: Sales were "lower-than-anticipated" for Max Payne and Spec Ops

Bombonera

Not sure what everyone saw in Spec Ops that I didn't. I played it and beat it in less than a day. Found it to be just a mediocre third person shooter which was heavily derivative of other third person games such as Gears of War. Also I still don't know what The Line actually is after beating the game. I think of it as being The Line between a bad game and a good one - Spec Ops is on the wrong side of that Line, unfortunately.

That describes me down to a T basically. I'm a horny geek. Horny in the watching hours of porn every night and still not feeling satisfied after multiple wanks sense. I'm not the least bit interested in a relationship though. Don't really want to try dogging or going to prostitutes either. Haven't tried AFF or Craiglist. Maybe I should though. :)

Game of the Week: Spec Ops

Bombonera

I'm surprised that a mediocre, derivative shooter has been deemed game of the week. The game's main problems are that it tries to imitate various elements of other games - the cover and shooting mechanics of Gears of War, the squad commands from GRAW. The helicopter sections were also eerily reminiscent of a section in Bulletstorm where you are operating a turret on a helicopter. Trouble is, those games do a better job at those things than The Line.

Source: Me having completed the game Spec Ops: The Line :)
