The Double-A Team: Flying jetpacks and strange cover in Dark Void

BadMonkey

Oh I've been waiting for this one! I absolutely loved this game, one of a very few that held my attention right to the end. I'm sure it must have had its faults but I'm damned if I can remember them!

Trump and Republicans once again link video games with gun violence

BadMonkey

Well if they didn't blame video games they might have to look at themselves and the hatred and poison that they're putting into the world. They have an openly racist President empowering these people and a gun lobby nobody seems willing or able to tackle. But yeah, I'm almost certain it's all down to Fortnite.
What really pisses me off is that suddenly we are stigmatising the mentally ill. Now they're the danger. But I'm sure this will work out well, when has Trump ever put forward a dangerous and underdeveloped idea?

The Double-A Team: guns, dogs and simpler times in Dead to Rights

Did you mean Due South rather than Northern Exposure? You know the one with the very polite Canadian Mountie and his wolf Diefenbaker teaming up with a streetwise Chicago cop? To this day I still say "Thank you kindly".

Is there any point you playing a multiplayer online shooter early? You know, by yourself?

Persona 5 is coming to Europe on Valentine's Day

BadMonkey

Why the hell are we moaning about the price instead of celebrating the miracle that it's getting an EU release? And not a year later as a bit of an after thought either, but at the same time as the North American version! Honestly, you just can't please some people.

Why video games are better than Lego

Lego is the single greatest achievement in human history. And that is a scientific fact.

Yes, the Rebels had it tough in the Star Wars Battlefront beta

BadMonkey

Surely the scenario should be unbalanced? In the movies the Rebels have just set up a very remote and they hope hidden base, which within minutes is subject to a full Imperial mechanised assault! They've got Taun-Tauns and the Empire have AT-ATs.  Hell they've only just got the speeders to work in the cold. No the scenario is and should be unbalanced, the problem is that the victory conditions are wrong.

Rocket League review

BadMonkey

Yeah, really not seeing the love for this. Despite what the review claims it is absolutely possible to score from kick offs (three goals in six seconds, and then I stopped playing silly buggers) and all the matches I've been involved in have devolved into titting about along the walls. I'm sure I'm missing out, but it's not for me I'm afraid.

F-Zero fan cans his own ill-advised Kickstarter

BadMonkey

I just wish somebody would make a new F-Zero. Or WipEout. I mean we can't stop the buggers making Calls Of Nature (I mean Duty, Calls of Duty) or the Ubisoft game (they're all the same, just reskinned, even The Crew is the same bloody structure) or FIFANFLHLPGABA whatever the year is, but a futuristic zero g racer? Not a chance, not a snowballs chance in hell. No call for it you see?

Sony announces lighter, less power hungry PS4 hardware

BadMonkey

I don't know why the 500gb versions of this or the xbone even exist though, even with the poor quality of software around at launch my 500gb got filled up and replaced with a 2tb pretty damn quickly. That said, good on Sony for releasing this for future generations to buy!

Works out for me, if the reviews are poor, I'll cancel my preorder. And if not I'll get all the nice freebies. Can't see the problem there.

Killzone: Shadow Fall revealed

BadMonkey

I can't have been the only one who briefly wished for something original here can I? Imagine being a copper in that beautiful city, summoned to the scene of a society murder on a planet about to tear itself apart. You investigate, uncover a grand conspiracy and have the chance to shape the future of your world. Or everything could blow up and it turns out to be a bloody FPS.  Again. Stupid imagination.

In all honesty I'll probably be going back to Space Marine when this hits, despite it's flaws it's been one of my favourite games of the year.

It's available on live now! Time to d/l! And then go to work...

THQ boss cools Space Marine 2 talk

BadMonkey

Seems to me THQ are wanting new franchises to sell CoD numbers, but without putting in the iterations to build the fan base which is insanely short sighted. Modern warfare 3 may well be a huge release, but (if my counting is correct) it is also the eighth outing for the franchise. And I for one would dearly love Space Marine 2.

I think that's a real shame cos it's been one of my gaming high lights this year. It looked gorgeous, played well and was very smart about being very stupid. I guess we won't be seeing a sequel then?

Not wishing to be a total geek but the number 24061459 that flashes up during the vid is Ezio's birthday (24/6/1459). Not that that tells us anything either.

Gearbox in talks to do new Halo game

BadMonkey

Given Gearbox's reputation is largely based on the Brothers in Arms series, I can see a nice change of pace for Halo where you don't play the super-indestructible one man army guy but just a regular grunt caught up in the interstellar war. If they do that with the same attention to detail and integrity of the BiA games it could be exceptional. No? Well I thought it was a nice change of pace anyway...

Space Siege

BadMonkey

I can't really see why anybody would be surprised by this, Chris Taylor as a designer seems hell-bent on fundamentally misunderstanding why genres are popular. The reason people like RPGs isn't in spite of all the fiddling and customisation and stuff, it's BECAUSE of those factors. Take them out and you're left with, well Dungeon Siege. Or this. I'd like to pick on the pointlessness of RTSs without resource collecting and base building, but apparently people like those...
