Far Cry 5 review - a competent yet conflicted open worlder

Review says the game is lukewarm and nothing exciting. Increasingly finding that my opinion is the opposite, and it sadly didn't used to be like this. Looking forward to delving in tonight!

David Cage on Detroit and its depiction of domestic violence

Archronos

The interview questions were a bit too aggressive to the point where they weren't really focused on the game at all. A bit disappointing, as I think the vision for Detroit is a little broader than the tunnel vision focus here. There's certainly a question of taste over shaking the controller as a QTE to evade domestic abuse, but a misuse of the opportunity to speak to David by chasing it so aggressively.

It sounds like Slightly Mad Studios is making a Fast & Furious game

Archronos

The timing of this project is going to be interesting - Fast and Furious couldn't be further from a racer game at this point, and I say that as a devoted fan of the series. From the 4th film in the series, they have moved to being heist movies that heavily involve cars. Two studios bringing their vision to life on what a game of the movies should be is nothing bad though.

Hitman gets a companion app to help you keep on top of those Elusive Targets

Archronos

@Agarwel_Idiriz the main advantage is that it will push to your smartphone when the elusives are in town. I told IO in a recent survey that I really enjoyed the elusives but as I don't live in Hitman, I often miss them. I'm really pleased with this. I guess to fully appreciate this you have to be interested in elusive targets in the first place and I am, this addresses loopholes with the limited availability and only finding out about them when media sites like EG run an article on them.

As for bookmarking the website, you could do that, but you're eventually going to reach a point where you stop checking it due to no updates. This saves even worrying about it, since your phone will tell you out of the blue when it's time.

Dead Rising 4 screenshots and gif leak

Archronos

The one thing that kills me about Dead Rising is the one thing they're still unlikely to change. Durability on weapons is such a 90's concept that has to go. Players will still swap through weapons if they find an interesting one, and you can disarm them with plot devices if you need to, like being captured etc. Instead of having fun slaughtering hundreds of zombies, I find myself not wanting to swing my favorite combo weapon because it'll use my durability.

(I've only played 1 and 2 incidentally, so if they changed this in 3, please let me know, I just never indulged in 3 as it never really shone as well as the other 2 in reviews and streams etc)

The Division to get raids, player-trading via free post-launch updates

Archronos

@Pulford Cliched for sure but if you're a fan of American TV shows, you'll have watched countless episodes titled "All In", it just happens. Personally I'd rather have something suggestive/invoking like that similar to the game, than "Expansion III" or "Brooklyn: Alex's Lost Years".

I think here it's more significant as it's likely Massive's last DLC for the base game and the close of the story threaded through it all.

@Gamerz76 It's one of the year's most anticipated games, so if you dare to say anything negative, you will receive the wrath of the internet unfortunately.

That being said, you're correct. The engine is still the original Oblivion engine although it's been upgraded and modded by Bethesda to no end, which is why you still see similarities but it also is a recognisably new game.

Grand Theft Auto Online micro-transaction pack prices revealed

Archronos

Well said Dave. A lot of self entitled gamers have a really poor attitude these days that brings shame on a hobby that we all unite to enjoy. Online games don't pay for themselves unfortunately and GTA V's online feature has a dedicated content scripting and support team that needs paid.

"Oh but they made over $1BN in sales of the game!!"

That is profit that will be used elsewhere in the business for GTA VI, for next gen console development, for the PC port of GTA V and so many more titles that I can't wait to play. You don't get to dictate where your money goes once you part with it for a copy of the game. You got your purchase, they got your money and that transaction is over.

And to repeat what many have already said - they're a profit generating business that will not stay afloat with your tears. When tears become a tradeable commodity, EA have enough gamer tears banked already to buy a galaxy.

@barkertron Do you know whose fault that is? It isn't Maxis. It's Joe Average and his shit PC from 2007. If today's minimum spec PC on average was a lot higher, we'd get bigger games capable of more but we get reduced ones so shit PCs can join in as well.

That of course, or the console release is coming.

Capcom: "there is a possibility" of Resident Evil series reboot

Archronos

we would want to preserve what Resident Evil is and what makes it appealing to fans
Yeah I remember they had this in mind when they dropped their development pants and took a massive shit on the series in 2005 with the release of RE4. It's been downhill ever since. All out action was never the intent of the series, there's plenty of games on the market that do that. I'd die for a reboot that goes back to the mansion with a proper story that spills down into Raccoon like the old series. Fixed cameras, terrible acting, all the key components of the beloved original trilogy that will never be topped.

I expect another industry earthquake when this bad boy hits, much like Minecraft's viral iron grip when it was released and at its peak. Dean has mad ideas that will leave cheap imitators like War-Z for dust when he's able to bring them to reality. Definitely the game of 2013.

I'd love to see the two developers imprisoned in Greece freed so they can rejoin development before it's released as well. I expect a lot of the work on the new Chernarus was done by them and it'd be nice for them to be on the outside and get the credit they deserve.
