Pokémon Sword and Shield Macro Cosmos and Rose Tower - where to find the bad League Staff and how to beat Oleana

Our complete walkthrough for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Macro Cosmos and Rose Tower are your next targets, and follow on from your first trip to Wyndon and the Semifinals in your quest through Pokémon Sword and Shield's main story.

On each page of our walkthrough like this, we'll cover any and all of the obtainable Pokémon, item locations, trainers and their teams that you might come across here, as well as walking you through any key steps of the story, puzzles or challenges along the way.

Where applicable, note that our walkthrough pages will be down into separate sections referring to each of your visits to a given location, seeing as you often backtrack or revisit various places in your quest to become Galar League Champion. And of course if there are any, we'll clearly mark any spoilers, too!

For more explainers, meanwhile, or walkthrough pages on more locations in Sword and Shield, head back to our main Pokémon Sword and Shield walkthrough and guide hub.

Pokémon Sword and Shield: where to find the bad League Staff Member, Macro Cosmos' Eric

Finally, things are starting to kick off in Galar and you're allowed to get involved. Your first task is to track down a pesky League Staff Member who's actually working under cover for Macro Cosmos, the organisation headed up by Chairman Rose and Oleana.

You can figure it out for yourself by looking for the person in League Staff clothes who's also wearing dark sunglasses, but if not here's a quick rundown of his locations. Each time you find him - he's called Macro Cosmos's Eric, by the way - you'll have to battle him. He'll have different Pokémon each time but they'll always be Steel-type and weak to Fire! Ground and Fighting will also be super effective in most cases, too.

Bad League Staffer Macro Cosmos' Eric location 1

First up, he's hiding in the north-east of the main square with the big statue and fountain, facing a wall by a Team Yell member, for some reason. Take him down!

Next, he's still by the central square at the entrance to Wyndon, this time just on the left of it.

Finally, he's a bit further left inside a red telephone box.

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Rose Tower and how to beat Oleana

After you've beaten Eric three times, he'll run off to the monorail station. Chase him there and, after an intervetion from Piers, the path to Rose Tower will finally be clear. Heal up, take the monorail, and head to Rose Tower!

Outside the tower there are actually several useful items to collect - one behind the sign and others, including hidden ones, at the dead ends either side of it. Once you've hoovered those up, head inside for a few more battles. This is the only time you'll face several battles in a row without much of a chance to heal, but Hop will patch you up mid-way, so this should still be a breeze!

Once you go inside, Hop will let you know you can actually Dynamax your Pokémon here - or at least you can when you get to the roof. Before you get there you'll need to face several battles against Macro Cosmos Grunts! Defeat the first one, and then head into the lift.

You'll do three 2v2 battles in a row, teaming up with your partner Hop, who heals you after each of them, and then you're at the top. Time to finally battle that snooty Oleana!

How to beat Oleana

Oleana's Pokémon are quite varied. Fire is super effective against Froslass and Tsareena. Rock against Froslass and Salazzle, and Ground is 4x effective against Salazzle and 2x against Garbodor, which she Gigantamaxes. Hold off on Dynamaxing until she brings that out, then - and try to have a Grass or Electric-type ready for Milotic, which could be a challenge if you don't.

With her defeated, head over to Leon and Rose, to watch a conversation play out. It seems less dramatic than you might have thought. Maybe everything will be okay, after all that? Regardless, you're sent back to the hotel for some rest, and your next challenge is to get back to business and take on the Champion Cup Finals.

That's everything here for now, so continue on to the Champion Cup Finals for the next steps in your quest, or cycle back to our main Pokémon Sword and Shield walkthrough and guide hub for all the other pages we have like this.
