Pokémon Sun and Moon - Hau'oli Outskirts, Trainers School, Hau'oli City proper

Our complete walkthrough for every step of your latest Pokémon journey.

After finishing up at Professor Kukui's Lab, it's on to Hau'oli City - the main cosmopolitan hub on Melemele Island, and actually one of the largest cities in Alola. There's plenty to do and see here before you head on to the first trial, so dive in!

Hau'oli City - Trainer School, Exp. Share, and Captain Ilima

First up, you'll be taken to meet Ilima, a Captain on Melemele Island, to tackle the Trainer School. There, you'll need to beat a total of four trainers who are dotted around the school - both inside and out - followed by a battle with the Head Teacher, Emily.

Finding the four trainers around the school is part of the challenge here, so below are their locations. Also, note that you can head to the Pokémon Center to heal at any time, so make the most of that!

  • Youngster Joey - North-west through the gate
  • Preschooler Mia - Inside school building
  • Youth Athlete Hiromi - North-east corner of the car park outside
  • Rising Star Joseph - In the Pokémon battling court out the front of the school

When all four of those trainers are defeated, you'll hear a tannoy announcement calling you inside to battle the head teacher. Watch out for her - it's possible to get caught in a pretty horrible Paralyze + Flinch lock from her Magnemite and Meowth, so heal up and save first!

Hau'oli City - Beach, Shopping District, and preparing for Ilima's Trial

Following your victory at the Trainer School, Ilima tells you that the first Trial will be held at Verdant Cavern. For now though, it's time to follow your friend Hau and enjoy the various amenities of the city. Plus, there are tons of items and some pretty great Pokémon to catch here, too...

Once you get the Pokéfinder, you'll also have a chance to snap a shot of a wild Pikachu - which you can't catch - just over a wall in the shopping district.

The more likes you get for photos with the Pokéfinder, which are earned by lining up shots of the Pokémon facing you, in the middle of the crosshairs, the more your 'finder will level up and grant you access to new abilities within it.
