With the announcement of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, came the reveal of the Gen 9 starter Pokémon.

As always, there are three to choose from: Sprigatito - the grass-type, Fuecoco - the fire-type and, finally, Quaxly - the water-type.

Everything we currently know about the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet starter Pokémon: Sprigatito, Fucecoco and Quaxly

Keeping to tradition, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet offers you the choice between three starter Pokémon, with each one focusing on a different type - grass, fire or water.

While much of the information surrounding the Gen 9 starter Pokémon remains a mystery, including their evolutions and movesets, a few details about these new Pokémon have been revealed.

Here's everything we currently know about the Gen 9 starter Pokémon:

Sprigatito

  • Type - Grass
  • Category - Grass Cat Pokémon
  • Height - 0.4m
  • Weight - 4.1kg
  • Ability - Overgrow

Pokémon with the Overgrow ability have the power of their grass-type moves increased when they have low HP.

The official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website describes Sprigatito as, 'The capricious, attention-seeking Grass Cat Pokémon.'

Fuecoco

  • Type - Fire
  • Category - Fire Croc Pokémon
  • Height - 0.4m
  • Weight - 9.8kg
  • Ability - Blaze

The Blaze ability increases the power of fire-type moves when the Pokémon with the ability has a low HP level.

Fuecoco is described as 'The laid-back Fire Croc Pokémon that does things at its own pace' on the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website.

Quaxly

  • Type - Water
  • Category - Duckling Pokémon
  • Height - 0.5m
  • Weight - 6.1kg
  • Ability - Torrent

Thanks to the Torrent ability, the power of Quaxly's water-type moves will be increased when it reaches low HP.

On the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website, Quaxly is described as 'The earnest and tidy Duckling Pokémon.'
