PES vs. FIFA "a healthy rivalry" - Konami

Publisher recalls "very difficult" few years.

The rivalry between the once brilliant PES franchise and current football favourite FIFA is "healthy", according to European PES team leader Jon Murphy.

He answered fans' questions in a just-published episode of Eurogamer TV, which went behind the development doors of Konami HQ in Japan for the first time in Western press history.

"I've said before that I think it's a healthy rivalry," Murphy told EGTV presenter Johnny Minkley. "Seabass [Shingo Takasuta - game director] has, over the last couple of days, been talking about a new beginning for PES.

"The last couple of years have been very difficult for the team. They've not really felt they're getting to be where they want to be. But I would say, without question, that this year you're going to be treated to something very different with PES.

"In some ways it's a completely different game," he added, "but you don't need to worry as a PES fan: you're still going to love it."

Johnny Minkley delved deep into those myriad changes in PES 2011 back in June.

PES 2011 will be released on PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360 this autumn.

Konami HQ isn't as exciting as Pixar or Google.
