Persona 5's Joker is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's first paid DLC character

Surprise!

In one of the more unexpected announcements at this year's Game Awards, Nintendo has revealed that Persona 5's Joker will be the first paid DLC character to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate post-launch.

Nintendo previously confirmed that Smash Bros. Ultimate would receive a total of five DLC packs after release, with each pack including a new character, a new stage, and related music.

Joker, who is set to arrive some time next year, is certainly a slightly odd place to start, given that Persona 5 isn't available on a Nintendo system (although there is a Persona spin-off on 3DS), but there's no denying that the game is a stylish addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's preposterously sized line-up. And it's always good to see new faces, especially if they come with a trailer as snazzy as the one above.

Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC characters will be available to purchase individually for £5.39 or as part of the game's Fighters Pass, which includes all five DLC bundles for £22.49.
