Nvidia unveils new super PC graphics card GeForce GTX 690

Two GPUs on one water-cooled card.

Nvidia's unveiled its brand new ultra high-end PC graphics card, the GeForce GTX 690.

It costs a pocket destroying $999, and launches 3rd May.

The GeForce GTX 690 has two Kepler GPU chips on one card. Power needs and heat are kept minimal by custom built vapour chamber heat sinks (miniature water cooling) and one central fan. And the whole unit is contained within a snazzy and functional black/silver box - a mix of cast aluminium and chrome plating, and injection moulded magnesium alloy.

Nvidia reckons the power from one GeForce GTX 690 "is almost identical" to two GeForce GTX 680s running in SLI.

This card can power Skyrim with maximum graphical settings in 2560x1600 resolution and with 16x anisotropic filtering at around 130 frames per second.

"It's the world's fastest graphics card by a wide margin," boasted Nvidia.

What's more, having two GPUs on one card means that when two GeForce GTX 690 cards are used in SLI, you'll have four GPUs working for you.

"At a MSRP of $999, it's not a graphics card for everyone," acknowledged Nvidia. "But for enthusiasts who demand the very best and gamers who want a graphics card that will last for generations, the GeForce GTX 690 represents the ultimate in gaming from Nvidia."
