No platform holder keynotes at GDC

Event refocusing on devs not headlines.

Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony will not deliver keynotes at this years Game Developer Conference in San Francisco.

The most high-profile talk of next week's event will be given by Civilization creator Sid Meier.

GDC director Meggan Scavio said there had been a conscious shift away from headline-grabbing reveals towards a more developer-focused event. She hopes this will prevent GDC from ballooning, thus sacrificing the developer community the show was created for.

"I've taken a bit of a shift when it comes to programming keynotes - I really want to focus on developers, and I want to have a developer onstage at GDC every year as a way of showcasing what the conference is about. It's not about making news, it's not about announcing things - it's about making better games, and I kind of want to... not really turn them into icons, but I want to recognise the talent of the developers out there, " Scavio explained to GamesIndustry.biz.

Look out for the full interview with Megan Scavio on GamesIndustry.biz this week.
