Nintendo unveils Mario Red Wii

Comes with SMB pre-installed.

Nintendo has announced plans to release a shiny red iteration of the Wii.

It's Mario Red, to be specific, and it's being launched to celebrate the 25th birthday of Super Mario Bros.

A Japanese release date has been set for 11th November, according to Kotaku. The price tag is ¥20,000 (around £150).

For that you get the red console and a matching Wii Remote Plus - that'd be the new controller which has MotionPlus functionality built-in, and which is launching in Japan on the same date. The machine also comes with Super Mario Bros. pre-installed.

Nintendo has yet to announce whether there are any plans to release the red Wii in Europe.
