Nintendo not lowering Wii price

Strong sales justify cost.

Nintendo has said it has no plans to cut the price of the Wii in the US, and that it will remain at USD 249 for now, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

That is according to what Nintendo America mouth George Harrison told Reuters in an interview.

"We'll stay at USD 249 for the foreseeable future," said Harrison. "We are still selling everything we can make."

His words answer moves made by Sony and Microsoft to cut the prices of their consoles in the run up to Christmas.

But Nintendo isn't under the same sort of pressure; the Wii not only targets a wider audience, it has also enjoyed being the cheapest of the new consoles since its launch. And it seems demand has continued to be high, as consumers face another Jingle All The Way-like rush to get their Wii before they all sell out.

If you look out of your window on a magical and snowy Christmas evening, you may see GamesIndustry.biz delicately stalking the rooftops dropping lovingly wrapped fact-parcels down chimneys.
