Nintendo announces Zelda: Wind Waker HD re-make for Wii U, out this year

All-new Wii U Zelda game also in the works "but may take some time".

Nintendo has just announced an HD re-make of much-loved GameCube classic The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker in a packed Nintendo Direct conference.

The re-make will launch this autumn, Nintendo chief Satoru Iwata said, while another all-new Wii U Zelda game is also in the works. That one, however, "may take some time".

Wind Waker on Wii U comes with overhauled graphics, Miiverse integration and GamePad play.

After that, the all-new Wii U Zelda game will offer revolutionary changes to the series' staples - a series of dungeons presented in a particular order and, most excitingly, that the series is traditionally played alone.

Changes to either of these features would mark a huge shift for the series. The thought of an open-world multiplayer Zelda game has me tingling.
