Tetsuya Mizuguchi planning Rez sequel on PSP or Nintendo DS

"I think we'll be able to make an announcement at E3 or maybe next year."

Tetsuya Mizuguchi has said that he plans to deliver a spiritual successor to Rez on either PlayStation Portable or Nintendo DS. Speaking on the last day of this year's Game Developers Conference, the veteran Japanese developer said that his newly formed independent studio Q Entertainment could make an announcement soon.

"I think we'll be able to make an announcement at E3 or maybe next year," he told GameSpot. "I think my next game will be for the PSP or Nintendo DS." Asked if his next project would be Rez 2 he said, "In my mind, yes. But I won't use the Rez name because that belongs to Sega."

Mizuguchi also commented on the reasons behind his decision to leave Sega six months ago, and seems to be enjoying life as an independent developer. "When I was with UGA, if I made a presentation and Sega said 'No' then it was over. Now, you know, I can take that presentation somewhere else."

He also blamed the "conservative mind-set" for the "awfully domestic" Japanese games market's current decline, and said that being unable to try new things in a risk-averse climate was one of the major factors behind his decision to leave Sega.
