Newell offers new Half-Life 2 date estimate

Not long to go, hopefully.

Valve Software head crab Gabe Newell has given us another update on the whole Half-Life 2 release date situation. Speaking in an interview with US site Home LAN Fed about the recently released 2D side-scroller Codename: Gordon, which is a free mod based on Half-Life and its as-yet unreleased sequel, said the game was "in great shape".

Answering the question the interviewer rather apologetically "had to ask", Newell addressed the state of the hugely anticipated first-person shooter, adding, "We anticipate delivering it to Vivendi in August." Whether that means a late August or September release is anyone's guess mind, and it is of course subject to change at the drop of a crowbar.

Still, we had to mention it. And, um, September 30th, anyone?
