Final results of 3DO asset auctions released
You paid HOW much for the Army Men franchise?!
Details of the sale of the remaining asset lots in the 3DO bankruptcy auction have emerged, with bidders including JoWooD, Crave and ex-CEO Trip Hawkins himself walking off with the defunct company's assets.
Earlier this week, we reported on the winning bidders in three of the biggest lots, with Namco picking up Street Racing Syndicate, Ubi Soft acquiring Heroes of Might and Magic, and Microsoft walking away with High Heat Baseball.
Today it has emerged that Austrian publisher JoWooD has purchased the Jacked franchise for some $90,000, while Crave Entertainment has bought the much-maligned Army Men franchise - for a jaw-dropping $750,000. Wow.
Although there was a question mark over his eligibility as a bidder for some time, ex-CEO Trip Hawkins has walked away with two asset lots - paying $200,000 for a selection of older 3DO properties, including Jonny Moseley Mad Trix, and $205,000 for the company's Internet patent assets.
Meanwhile Patent Purchase Manager LLC bought a job lot of development tools and IP for $75,000, bringing the total amount raised from the auction to $4.6 million.
Interestingly, business site TheDeal.com reports that three companies were interested in purchasing the entire assets of 3DO as a single lot - but were dissuaded from doing so by the current SEC probe into the accounting practices of the industry.
