Dredd vs. Death release date set

See you in court.

Oxford-based Rebellion has issued word that Judge Dredd: Dredd vs. Death will now be released on October 17th for PC, PS2 and Xbox, with a GameCube version following in late November (on the 21st, or so we've heard), in-keeping with the developer's commitment earlier this month to an early October date. Well, it's mid-October, really, but sometimes the Fridays fall inconveniently.

Dredd vs. Death is the first Judge Dredd game for next-generation consoles and PC since Rebellion bought sci-fi comic 2000AD in June 2000. In it, players handling Dredd patrol the streets of Mega-City One arresting and punishing lawbreakers, and fighting off hordes of the undead, perhaps released at the behest of the Dark Judges (tease!). The final game should be playable co-operatively with a friend, with four-player split-screen multiplayer modes on each console (albeit no Live or PS2 Online support) and 32-player LAN or Internet support on the PC.

Earlier this month Rebellion apologised for a snafu that saw unfinished beta copies erroneously reviewed by a number of UK games magazines. Bugs, we were told, have in fact been ironed out. We'll let you know if we agree as soon as Vivendi gets round to sending us the right version.
