Doom 3 demo details

id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead comments on demo plans, Mac and Linux versions of Doom 3 and other issues, with more to come.

A Doom 3 demo will probably be made available shortly after US retailers take stock on August 3-5th, id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead has revealed in his latest .plan update. "I don't have any information to share regarding any specific content, but I don't believe that we have ever disappointed in that regard in the past," he said.

In his first update since Wednesday's "It's done!", Hollenshead also offered thanks to everyone for their notes of congratulation, and commented on Linux and Mac ports. "Unfortunately I don't have dates for either of these," he said. "However, Linux binaries will be available very soon after the PC game hits store shelves." Apparently there are no plans for boxed Linux games.

As for the Mac, "More remains to be done for the OSX version of DOOM 3 and that will take some time. We won't release the OSX version until it's just as polished as the PC version. The date for OSX DOOM 3 remains 'when it's done', but I can confirm that it's definitely coming," he concluded.

Finally, Hollenshead promised that id would try and pull together some form of an official FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) document to try and deal with everyone's concerns, and added that the "preparation tips" mentioned in his previous update would probably pitch up sometime today.

Doom 3 is due out in the UK on August 6th and the rest of Europe on August 13th according to id's estimates, and will hit the first retailers in the States at midnight on August 3rd ahead of an official August 5th street date.
