Scraps of FFXII info leaked

Not much, mind.

Details of Final Fantasy XII have appeared on the net this week thanks to the notoriously leaky Shonen Jump magazine, which has been scanned ahead of time to great delight once again, with Square Enix's official unveiling of the game still planned for November 19th in Tokyo.

According to previous information, the game has been placed in the hands of Vagrant Story director Yasumi Matsuno, with character designs by another VS alumnus, artist Akihiko Yoshida, although to our eyes the latest footage and CG doesn't look like that much of a leap forward from FFX, evoking a similar character style in new leads Van and Ashie (or Arche - there seems to be some debate on how her name translates).

However at least Van has a sensible dress sense, with navy blue, silver and red dashed about his person and not the violent yellows and gothic half-and-half bottoms of spiky-haired Tidus. Other characters in the Jump scans include a reptilian chap and a bloke on a Chocobo, with what looks a bit like an army of CG soldiers holding spears.

A group of small shots on the page shed some more light on the flashy city shown in the FF12.com teaser illustration, with flying machines darting around all over the place, and a separate jungle environment and beach-front battle sequence with three characters in the party.

Obviously it won't take much effort to uncover the FFXII scans yourself if you really want to see (they're on the Gaming Age forums for a start). Early comment from fans seems rather discontented - with many complaining that it looks stylistically to FFX when we were promised a big change - but we're keen to see what Square Enix has to say for itself at the game's proper unveiling next Wednesday, and we'll bring you more on the game as soon as we can after that.
