Squenix undecided on Dragon Quest VIII in Europe

It could yet happen, it seems, as American reps confirm that the monster RPG will make an appearance in North America.

Square-Enix has yet to decide whether or not to bring Dragon Quest VIII to Europe, a UK representative confirmed this afternoon, as the American arm of the RPG giant confirmed that it intends to release the game across the pond - probably within 2005.

"Nothing is confirmed," but the publisher has yet to come to a decision one way or the other, we were told today, which is good news for RPG fans unwilling or unable to import NTSC PS2 titles.

Those of you who can run American PS2 titles though will be pleased to hear that "Dragon Quest VIII will be coming to North America," in the words of a Square-Enix USA spokesperson.

Over in the series' native Japan, each new instalment is typically greeted with much fanfare, and version VIII, released late last year, topped the charts for several weeks.

There's currently no word on when we can expect to see Dragon Quest VIII in the States, but we'll be sure to let you know when we hear more - and if Square-Enix comes to a decision regarding Europe. We know they read your comments, mind, so if you're keen to see it make the transition you could do worse than to pipe up on these pages...
