Atlus plans surgery game for Nintendo DS

A cut above the rest, presumably. (That was awful.)

Japanese site EG (no relation) has details of one of publisher Atlus' five announced Nintendo DS titles - Caduceus - and we have a feeling the Daily Mail won't be impressed. Possible headlines might include: "Game teaches children how to cut open their friends" and "Don't have a heart attack or your child will dice you".

Caduceus: Surgical Operation, to give it its full title, involves performing operations using the stylus on the touch screen, cutting open various bits of each patient and removing parasites, which form the basis of some sort of science-fiction storyline.

All the illnesses and operating procedures will apparently be fictional, which is probably a relief for some, and interestingly the game will also take advantage of the DS' microphone; the player will have to cheer on the patient using voice recognition...

According to the Japanese report, which also features a screenshot (with the curious caption, "Mission 12: Hurted Heart" - perhaps it'll ruin the littluns' spelling too), Caduceus is being billed as a "sci-fi surgery action game," so it may well feature some, er, action in addition to the cutting and mending. All will be revealed when it's released in spring 2005.
