Tribune targets mobiles

Service to launch with Sudoku.

Tribune Media Services has announced plans to launch a new service that will bring mobile content to readers of online newspapers and magazines.

TMS Mobile Integrated Content Solutions will launch later this month with Michael Mepham's Sudoku, and new puzzles and games will be added to the portfolio throughout the year.

TMS Mobile will provide an end-to-end outsourced service, from content delivery to billing and customer service, and the company's customers will promote the service in print, online and advertising products. Download and advertising revenues will be shared between TMS and its ICS customers.

"Our media customers around the world have been asking us if we can provide mobile versions of our content products," said TMS's marketing vice president, Stephen Tippie.

"In response, we have developed a low cost, low risk solution for serving up mobile versions of our best syndicated features to their readers, all completely under their brand."

"TMS Mobile ICS gives them the opportunity either to test the mobile waters before making a more comprehensive commitment or supplement their current revenue from mobile carrier deals with revenue from our 'off-carrier-deck' solution."

TMS Mobile ICS is currently on show at the World Association of Newspapers conference in Moscow.
