Steel Battalion goes offline

Plug pulled on Campaign mode.

Bad news for fans of super-pricey Xbox mech combat title Steel Battalion - Capcom is withdrawing online support for the game's Campaign mode at the end of the month.

According to a statement issued by the publisher, "As of Friday September 30th, 10.00 am - 12.00 pm PST, Capcom will be ending the online services for Campaign Mode of Steel Battalion.

"We appreciate your continued support of our product, and sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this may cause. Please enjoy Campaign Mode for the short time it is still available."

But it's not all doom and gloom: "We will continue services and support for both Free Mission Mode and System Link play." So that's all right then. You just can't do the, er, main game bit.

As you may recall, Steel Battalion was released more than two years ago at the frankly shocking price of £129.99. It came with a three-part controller, y'see, complete with all manner of buttons, gear sticks, joysticks and foot pedals.

As you'll know if you read our review, back in the day, it wasn't really worth the money. And now even less so. Sigh.
