Wii U Miiverse headed to PC, smartphones in May

Do you follow?

Wii U social network Miiverse will finally be accessible from PC and smartphones by the end of May, Nintendo has announced.

It's long been known that the company is working on web-based and app versions of its Wii U community forum.

Speaking at GDC, Miiverse producer Kiyoshi Mizuki promised access to the network would finally open up beyond the Wii U in April or May, Polygon reported.

A version for Nintendo's 3DS handheld is set to follow.

The service has seen a number of improvements since its launch alongside the Wii U last November, and more new features are in the warp pipeline.

You'll soon be able to reply and follow other users from within games - there'll be no need to launch the Miiverse app.

Posts will also be able to link to and open certain sections of a game - a specific level in Mario, for example - to allow other users to quick access.
