It's time to let this gigantic $250 Pokémon pillow devour you in your sleep

Light's out.

Phew, it's the end of the first week of 2021 and almost time to go lie down for several days.

And hey, if you had a spare $250, you could do much worse than lying down on this, an enormous Pokémon pillow shaped like the ghostly Gengar.

As you can see, the pillow comes with a 170cm fold-out tongue for you to lie on. Your head is then placed within Gengar's horrible mouth, which is 53cm wide and 48cm tall.

And while unconventional, I feel this pose is also a very strong and understandable 2021 look.

The sleeping aid is the work of Japanese retailer P-Bandai, which opened online pre-orders for the 25,950 yen (about £180) pillow last night. Alas, they are now all sold out.

Interestingly, Gengar is usually said to haunt you while you're awake rather than while you're asleep (if you see your shadow moving while you're standing still, it's probably this Pokémon playing tricks on you).

However, the new Gigantamax variant Gengar introduced in the series' latest games Pokémon Sword and Shield does have a worrying ability tied to its giant yawning gob.

"Rumour has it," the games' Pokédex tells us, "its mouth leads not into its body, filled with cursed energy, but instead directly to the afterlife... If you stand in front of its mouth, you'll hear your loved ones' voices calling out to you."

Night night.
