In shocking news, Shenmue 3 won't release this year

Would Yu believe it.

Shenmue 3 will no longer be released in 2018, publisher Deep Silver has confirmed.

In news which will surprise no one following the project, the game apparently requires a bit longer in development.

"Deep Silver today announce that their upcoming release Shenmue 3 has been moved and will now release in 2019," a statement posted to the publisher's official site reads.

"The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe."

We've seen just a smidge of the long-awaited threequel so far, despite having launched its Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign back during E3 2015.

Series megafan Martin Robinson gazed over some screenshots back in January and said the game looked like it was on the right track. Wesley was less kind about the next batch of images, released the following month.

"The faces are as dead-eyed as we've come to expect," Wes wrote. "Once again they depict characters with faces seemingly peeled off of a set of mannequins."

We've been waiting 17 years since Shenmue 2 - what's another 12 months?
