Harmonix confirms Hero's exit

No longer rocking out.

Harmonix has officially confirmed reports that it's not working on a third game in the Guitar Hero series.

"Here's the official line: Harmonix can confirm that we are not developing Guitar Hero 3," producer Daniel Sussman told Gamasutra.

"We are instead working on a different music game project, one that is a bigger and more ambitious endeavour than we felt we could pursue within the bounds of the Guitar Hero franchise."

Last week it emerged that Activision-owned Guitar Hero publisher RedOctane had shifted development of the peripheral-based rhythm-action game to Tony Hawk developer Neversoft - something later confirmed by executive Dusty Welch.

Nobody involved has offered a decent explanation for why yet though, although everyone claims they have masses of respect for each other, obviously.
