GDC: Zelda DS multiplayer

First details, fantasy that.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass will have a Pac-Man inspired multiplayer mode when it launches for DS later this year.

The GDC demo shows two players going head-to-head, one player controlling Link, the other directing a handful of enemies using stylus-drawn routes.

The idea is simple: our little green-clothed hero has to collect as many Tri-Force pieces as he can, whilst Mr. Nasty uses his band of enemies to catch him.

Link will slow down when he picks up larger debris, and if he's caught the roles will reverse so that Zelda cat and mouse can begin all over again.

Zelda DS is expected to be talked about in this evening's keynote speech by creator Shigeru Miyamoto, which takes place at 18:30 GMT. We'll be covering the conference again using Live Text, so check back later to see what Nintendo's got to say.
