How about a STALKER battle royale game? There's one in development. It's called Fear the Wolves and it's made by Vostok Games, the studio formed from the ashes of STALKER developer GSC.
Fear the Wolves takes place, like STALKER, in the creepy radiation-blasted wasteland of Chernobyl. It's a 100-player deathmatch where you can play lone wolf or in squads - but players won't be the only enemy. Deadly anomalies constantly threaten your health, mitigated somewhat by protective gear found while exploring. Of more pressing danger, however, will be the mutated forms lurking in the shadows...
Fear the Wolves will be released at some point this year on PC and consoles - presumably much later this year. There'll be an early access phase on PC beforehand.
Post-apocalyptic shooter Survarium become available to download via Steam Early Access this Thursday, 2nd April at 8pm UK time.
Survarium is designed as a free-to-play experience, but three limited edition starter packs will also be made available for sale.
The game is a long way from being complete. The current build only offers a simple PVP experience - the more robust Co-op and PVE Freeplay modes are still in development.
Survarium, the free-to-play first-person-shooter by several ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers at Vostok Games, has finally detailed its much anticipated Freeplay mode.
Freeplay mode gives player's specific missions which they're tasked with pulling off in a single life. When they die, their gear will remain on their corpse and is ripe for the looting.
The Freeplay map will be very large in scope. Much larger than the usual PvP maps. They'll be so big and full of so many structures that not everyone will even be equipped to explore them to completion. "New players in a weak outfit will not be able to explore the entire map. The most dangerous areas will be available only to players with the best gear and access to some areas will require playing through the story quest chain," the developer wrote in a new blog post.
What's missing from the Survarium open beta (which we found very encouraging anyway) is arguably the most important part: the Free Play mode. It's described as a PVE (player-versus-environment - you-against-the-computer) mode with exploration and missions. In other words it's as close to a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience as the game will get - remember that Ukrainian developer Vostok Games formed when S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC shadily fell apart, so there's plenty of shared heritage.
When things went tits-up with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 at Ukrainian developer GSC, a large chunk of disgruntled staff formed a new studio called Vostok Games. There they built a new game on familiar foundations and called it Survarium.
That game, a free-to-play persistent online shooter, just entered open beta. Head to the game's website, sign up and download the game-client to give it a try.
In the open beta are Team Deathmatch and Battery Retrieval modes - a kind of capture-the-battery. There's still no pivotal Freeplay - roam around the twisted world killing mutated AI - mode but, the developer assured, it's on its way. And it's here Survarium will be most like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
There are six days of the Kickstarter to go and - finally - we're shown gameplay footage of Areal.
There's been a noteworthy update to the controversial Areal Kickstarter (beyond what I dug into last week): the full-time hiring of Alexey Sytyanov, the lead game designer of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and the lead game designer of Survarium.
Survarium, the free-to-play MMOFPS being made by several ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R devs at start-up Vostok Games - is going to have a 24 hour open beta on Friday.
This will feature only team-based modes. After that, the game will revert back to closed beta as it prepares for an open beta and planned launch later this year.
In other Survarium news, the game's client has been updated to version 0.21a. This patch allows players to customise the HUD, adds the new Mamayev Kurgan map along with new weapons, and significantly reduces traffic between the client and server. For the full patch notes, check out Survarium's official site.
The developers of Survarium, the free-to-play PC MMOFPS from some of the creators of the Stalker series, have announced an updated schedule for getting the game in players' hands.
Survarium, the free-to-play PC MMOFPS from former developers of the Stalker series, goes into open beta at the end of 2013.
Developer Vostok Games, founded in March 2012 after Stalker developer GSC Game World shut down, today published a development timeline for Survarium, considered the spiritual successor to the Stalker series.
The beta version, 0.5, will be released at some point during the fourth quarter of 2013. "Most likely" it will be an open beta, Vostok said, "but in case of huge influx of new players we could temporarily hold up the admission of new players to ensure the increased server capacities, so as not to spoil the fun for those who already got the game access and have pulled through the alpha test crucible with us."
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer Vostok games have released a new developer diary detailing the creation of its upcoming sort of spiritual successor free-to-play FPS/MMO Survarium.
The first in-game screenshots of Survarium, the first title from the former Stalker 2 developers, have been released.
In keeping with the times, reincarnated S.T.A.L.K.E.R. dev Vostok Games will openly develop new game Survarium hand-in-hand with the community.
Stalker 2 is all but dead and buried, judging by a rush of activity surrounding beleaguered developer GSC.
