Back in 2013, Big Robot Ltd. released Sir, You Are Being Hunted: a survival sandbox game that was well received due to its quirky British touches and terrifying robots. The developer has today unveiled its latest title, The Light Keeps Us Safe, which as a stealth-survival game seems to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor.
In the post-apocalyptic world of The Light Keeps Us Safe, the sky has "gone out", leaving only disturbing machines to patrol the land. It's a procedurally-generated hellscape. As the title suggests, players will need to use "powers of light" to defend themselves and escape from traps. The game also requires players to venture out of their bunker towards something called The Light, which is apparently where everyone else has gone. Very mysterious.
The new game will be released via Steam Early Access on the 11th of October this year. Conveniently, this is right before Halloween - ideal timing for players seeking to get into the spooky mood. Big Robot has promised a gameplay trailer will be released shortly, which should reveal a little more about the game before its release.
I wonder: do you end up saving money in sales or spending more because things are on sale? Regardless, Steam is having a sale, a stealth-game sale, which lasts until Friday, 16th October, 6pm BST.
We've been excited about Sir, You Are Being Hunted - Big Robot's new open-world running-away-from-gentrified-androids simulation - ever since we got to play it at Rezzed, where it was our game of the show, so the news that the alpha version is being made available to everyone next week is hot stuff.
Monday 19th August is the date, according to a video slipped out to Kickstarter backers last month and confirmed by Big Robot's Jim Rossignol to us late last week. Anyone who pre-orders the game for $20 will get it then, as will any Kickstarter backers not already playing the closed test version, and anyone who buys it from then on. There will be Windows and OSX versions initially and Linux will follow later.
The general alpha version will include the fens, rural and mountain biomes, and will be followed by regular updates. Big Robot plans to include a roadmap for these with the alpha, so people can see what's planned, but they will include customisation options, hunter/gatherer mechanics, the castle biome and more NPCs - including a cool-looking scarecrow shown in the video above.
Rezzed, The PC and Indie Games Show returns for a second year this June 22nd-23rd at The NEC building in Birmingham. And now the first playable games have been confirmed.
Old timey "tweedpunk" survival game Sir, You Are Being Hunted has been successfully funded on Kickstarter.
First-person "tweedpunk robo-horror" game Sir, You Are Being Hunted has taken to Kickstarter, which recently launched in the UK.
Sir, You are Being Hunted is a first-person survival game set in randomly generated moors where you must stave off a league of aristocratic robot poachers and their mechanical hounds.
The game is being helmed by Rock, Paper, Shogtun guru Jim Rossignol at his indie outfit Big Robot. Rossignol described Sir, You are Being Hunted as a, "British indie S.T.A.L.K.E.R."
"The game gathers up elements of my favourite things: exploration, AI interaction, survival, robots, hot drinks, and blends them into a rich pixelly pulp," said Rossignol on the official site.
