VideoPUBG's new "Savage" map brings a tropical twist to the battlegrounds

After only three days, the first round of closed beta testing for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' new map has ended. Codenamed "Savage", the tropical-themed map measures 4 kilometres by 4, making it just a quarter of the size of the game's two existing maps, Erangel and Miramar.
Earlier this week, a live action trailer for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was released and it quickly went viral. There were two main reason for this; firstly it was excellently produced and exciting to watch, but the real surprise was that it was advertising PUBG on mobile phones. Yes, you heard right, PUBG, the game Team Eurogamer play way too much of, is now playable on Android and iOS devices. Bonkers!
If you're at all familiar with the Eurogamer video team, you know that there are two things we really enjoy - namely the spirit of competition and constant bickering. When we were given the opportunity to indulge both of these vices in front of a live audience at London's Vault Festival, then, we jumped at the chance.

As regular viewers of our YouTube channel will know, myself and the rest of the video team are huge fans of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. It's not just the game we've fallen in love with though, I've also been spending an unhealthy amount of my time with the Replay Mode.
During last night's Game Awards, developer Bluehole announced that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' version 1.0 will arrive on PC on December 20th.

Earlier this year, Brendan Greene tweeted out a few teaser images of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' upcoming desert map. Ever since then, he's been drip-feeding new information to eager fans, but a lot of details are still up in the air. What new weapons will be available? Will there be an underground bunker? Can we really ride that bicycle?!

PUBG's most iconic weapon isn't a shotgun, an assault rifle or an SMG. In fact, in most other contexts, you wouldn't even consider it much of a weapon at all, you'd probably just use it to make eggs. But here, in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, it carries a greater meaning, a higher purpose. Oh and also, if you stick it on your bum, it could very well save your life. I am, of course, talking about the frying pan.
Earlier this week, H1Z1's Battle Royale style spin-off, King of the Kill, released its first big update in what seems like an age.
The 'Combat Update' has retuned and rebalanced the core mechanics in a bid to perfect the game's signature, action-packed, arena shooter gameplay.
Along with a complete overhaul of how the weapons handle, there's also been changes to the UI, improvements to player movement and also five new points of interest have been added to the map.

I think it's safe to say that the Eurogamer video team has the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds bug at the minute. It's also a truth universally accepted that, at any given moment, the people on said team are only a hair's breadth away from attempting to murder one another. So, in order to combine these two interests, this week we set ourselves a challenge. Splitting into two teams, we jumped into the same game of Battlegrounds in order to see who could survive the longest.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is quickly becoming a favourite among the Eurogamer video team. While we're hardly what you'd call pro players, there's still something undeniably fun about running around the game map, frantically gathering weapons in a bid to stay alive. Even if you die in the opening minutes, there's something about Battlegrounds that lends itself well to stories. Like the time I got confused and punched Chris to death, for instance - or the time we actually managed to win, against all odds.
