Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark

Another of BioWare's old-guard has left the building. This time it's James Ohlen, lead designer of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights and Dragon Age: Origins, and director of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Ohlen leaves BioWare after a staggering 22 years.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition gets a release date

Beamdog's Enhanced Edition of BioWare's quite-old-now role-playing game Neverwinter Nights will be released 27th March on Steam.

It's $20 but for that you get both NWN expansions - Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark - plus paid modules Kingmaker, ShadowGuard and Witch's Wake. If you splash out on the $40 Deluxe Edition you also get the paid modules Pirates of the Sword Coast, Wyvern Crown of Cormyr and the procedurally generated Infinite Dungeons, which scales up to character level 40.

NWN being enhanced means Beamdog has brought elements of the game up to date, including a UI which scales right up to 4K, and advanced graphics options to clean up and beautify the game. It's the same sort of treatment Beamdog has given Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment in the past. The only original work Beamdog has done, so to speak, was to make Baldur's Gate expansion pack Siege of Dragonspear.

The writer who left BioWare: Eurogamer interviews Drew Karpyshyn

On poor fiction, text versus graphics, KOTOR, the Mass Effect 3 ending and Children of Fire.

Drew Karpyshyn not only resembles Commander Shepard facially - he created him. Drew Karpyshyn was one of BioWare's greatest ever writers. He was lead writer of cherished Star Wars role-playing game Knights of the Old Republic, and he was lead writer of Mass Effect 1, 2, and all the books in-between (not Deception). Along the way, Karpyshyn also influenced Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal, Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire and massive storied MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic - a job that meant he couldn't be a part of Mass Effect 3.

BioWare's "regret" over forum hack

EA promises to bolster security.

BioWare Edmonton studio GM Aaryn Flynn has expressed his regret over last week's "highly sophisticated and unlawful cyber attack" suffered by BioWare's server system supporting the Neverwinter Nights forums.
