Mortal Kombat Vita release date revealed

Portable dust-up arrives in May.

The Vita version of 2011 franchise reboot Mortal Kombat launches in Europe on 4th May, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has announced.

It's essentially the same game released on consoles last year, with a handful of new features thrown in.

As well as touchscreen-enabled fatalities, there's an all-new Challenge Tower mode offering 150 Vita-exclusive missions.

BBFC reveals Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition release date

The Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition will be released on 17th February 2012.

That's according to UK age-ratings body the BBFC, which handed out an 18 certificate this afternoon.

The BBFC only mentioned Xbox 360, and didn't discuss the game's content beyond "contains strong bloody violence".

Unofficial web short creator to direct.

A new Mortal Kombat movie has been given the green light, with the man responsible for last year's impressive unofficial web short given the nod to direct.

According to Los Angeles Times, New Line Cinema is teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on the project, with production to start next year ahead of a planned 2013 release.

Director Kevin Tancharoen caught Warner's eye when an unofficial proof-of-concept short he made in 2010 called Mortal Kombat: Rebirth went viral. He was then signed up to make nine officially sanctioned web promos - called Mortal Kombat: Legacy - to push this year's video game reboot.

NetherRealm has released a patch for Mortal Kombat, and MortalKombatUnited.com has tested the changes it brings and detailed the patch notes.

The patch notes are reproduced below. From the looks of things, Subzero has received a pretty nifty boost.

The patch was released for the Xbox 360 version of the three million-selling game today. The patch goes live on PlayStation 3 next week.

Mortal Kombat 9 has sold 3 million copies around the world, Warner Bros. has announced.

It's the best-selling fighting game this year - more successful, even, than Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Warner Bros. video game president Martin Tremblay said the numbers had "exceeded our sales goals".

Weatherman Rain will be available to download for Mortal Kombat 9 on 19th July - next Tuesday.

The purple ninja that controls rain and lightning will cost either 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live Marketplace or £3.19 on PlayStation Network.

Rain will be able to encapsulate fighters in bubbles of water, call down lightning bolts, disappear and reappear in puddles of water and produce a nifty array of kicks.

Mortal Kombat Kenshi DLC release date

The Mortal Kombat Kenshi downloadable content launches on 5th July, Warner Bros. has announced.

That's a Tuesday, and relates to the DLC's Xbox Live launch. In Europe on the PlayStation Network it goes a day later, on Wednesday 6th July.

At least, that's what we hope. The Mortal Kombat Skarlet DLC was mysteriously absent from the European PlayStation Store following its US launch.

The PlayStation 3 version of fighting game Mortal Kombat – out this week – includes God of War star Kratos as an exclusive playable character. Xbox 360 owners, however, do not get an exclusive character. Why?

Warner Bros. Interactive has announced a tournament designed to unearth the UK's best Mortal Kombat player.

The final will be held at The Gadget Show Live in the NEC in Birmingham on Sunday 17TH April. First prize: a full size Mortal Kombat arcade machine containing PS3 console.

Brutal PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 fighting game Mortal Kombat will launch in the UK on Thursday 21st April, Warner Bros. has confirmed to Eurogamer.

That's three days later than the previously announced 18th April UK release date.

It launches in the US on 19th April.

Developer NetherRealm Studios is working with original creator Ed Boon to breathe new life into the IP.

Among the fighters confirmed for the new game are Cyrax, Ermac, Jade, Jax, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Kung Lao, Mileena, Nightwolf, Raiden, Reptile, Scorpion, Sektor, Shao Kahn, Sindel, Sonya, and Sub-Zero.
