Final Fantasy Agito announced for iOS and Android

UPDATE: Square Enix has released a trailer for mobile and tablet game Final Fantasy Agito.

Agito, the reworking of the PSP title Final Fantasy Type-0, is Japan-only for now.

Final Fantasy Type-0 sequel in the works

PlayStation Portable game Final Fantasy Type-0 is still without a confirmed western release, but that hasn't stopped Square Enix from beginning work on a sequel.

Producer Hajime Tabata told Famitsu (via Andriasang) a "framework" for a sequel in the Type subseries "is already being worked on".

Sales of the PlayStation Portable spin-off were "very good", Tabata said. It topped the Japanese charts following its late October launch, shifting nearly half a million copies. Tabata said for the first entry in a new series, the game received a good response.

Final Fantasy Agito XIII was renamed to Final Fantasy Type-0 because multiplayer is built into the game's basic design, Square Enix has said.

Because of this, the PSP game differs from the numbered Final Fantasy games or the Final Fantasy XIII group, Type-0 director Hajime Tabata and producer Yoshinori Kitase told Dengeki PlayStation magazine (translated by Andriasang).

Type-0 indicates a separate genealogy of Final Fantasy games, what's described as an underground numbering system.

Agito, Square Enix's mysterious Final Fantasy XIII spin-off for PlayStation Portable, is shrouded in mystery, but now development on The 3rd Birthday has finished up details have trickled out of Japan.

Agito's worldview is described as a "fantasy conflict between four sides", according to tweets by director Hajime Tabata (translated by Andriasang).

Battles are "deadly clashes between weapons and magic". The game also looks at the two sides of reality, the ordinary and extraordinary.
