Divinity: Original Sin News

Console Divinity: Original Sin gets a release date

Larian Studios has told Eurogamer the Enhanced Edition of Divinity: Original Sin, AKA the console version, will be released 27th October 2015. The date had been vaguely "October" before now. The Enhanced Edition is coming to PS4 and Xbox One as well as PC, where it will be free to owners of the original game.

New in the Enhanced Edition is split-screen co-op, chiefly, which is offered alongside online co-op. Larian released a video earlier in the month, embedded below, showing how it works. And oh my god there's a line that splits the screen!

In addition, the Enhanced Edition brings fully-voiced and remastered dialogues, new quests, new combat styles, changes to the crafting system and a reworked storyline. It all makes for a very enticing package, building on a superb old-school role-playing game originally released on PC last year.

Free Divinity: Original Sin update adds two new companions

Larian has released a free update for turn-based role-playing game Divinity: Original Sin that adds two new companions.

Bairdotr is described as a "curious and loyal ranger" who has got herself into trouble at the Legion barracks. Wolgraff is a silent rogue who steals coins from the wishing well in the Cyseal hinterlands.

Both characters are a part of The Bear and the Burglar update, which you can grab from Steam as DLC or just update your game on GOG. But be warned: the new companions only appear once you start a new game after downloading the update.

"So much for turn-based fantasy RPGs not selling..."

Developer Larian Studios is working out what to make next after turn-based fantasy role-playing game Divinity: Original Sin sold half a million copies.

In a blog post titled "Thoughts after releasing Divinity: Original Sin and what comes next," Larian boss Swen Vincke said D:OS, which launched on Steam on 30th June priced 29.99 after a successful Kickstarter campaign, had sold "well over" half a million copies - a milestone that means the project has reached the break even point.

"Our debts have been paid and we are now in the profitable zone," he said. "While not all of the money is for us as we had private investors on board, the game did sufficiently well for us to envision funding our next endeavors with it, meaning we're pretty happy about its performance.

Finishing touches required before exit from Steam Early Access.

Isometric turn-based role-playing game Divinity: Original Sin launches on 30th June - 10 days later than expected.

Developer Larian Studios said there were still a few finishing touches to apply to the game before it leaves Steam Early Access. It will use the extra time to add voice-overs for a range of characters, and squash bugs.

"This is going to give us the time we need to get everything integrated," Larian told Kickstarter backers. "We know we're testing your patience, but you can rest assured that we're as keen as you to release - it's high time we get this game out of our hands and into yours."

Top-down RPG sequel adds multiplayer.

A new entry in Larian Studios' Divinity RPG franchise arrives in 2013, the Belgian developer has announced.

Titled Divinity: Original Sin, it's set before the events of 2002 release Divine Divinity and takes the series "back to its roots".
