Borderlands Handsome Collection and £270 special edition announced for PS4, Xbox One

Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (and all DLC) are being bundled together and tarted up for release in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The compilation comes out 27th March.

You'll be able to transfer old saves from PS3, 360 and Vita into the new games (providing you stick to the same family of machine); you'll be able to play four-player split-screen for the first time; and, apparently, "for the first time on a console, players can experience [the games] in HD - looking better than ever before". In HD for the first time! Goodness me! Whatever the graphical upgrades are, aren't mentioned.

A Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition of the game was announced alongside the news and costs a ridiculous $399 (confirmed UK translation: £270). That's because it has a remote controlled - via smartphone app - one-wheeled Claptrap robot inside, complete with video-streaming eye and ability to spout one-liners from the game. Only 5000 have been made. Watch it in action in the video below.

Borderlands announces $100K worth of prizes in in-game loot hunt

Borderlands announces $100K worth of prizes in in-game loot hunt

Cash and sponsored prizes are US only, but special loot is worldwide.

Borderlands 2 publisher 2K and Gearbox Software have announced a promotion in which they're giving away $100K worth of prizes in an in-game loot hunt.

So how does this all work, you ask? Starting on 11th October at 10 a.m. ET, the game will be ever-so-slightly altered so several of its zaniest guns will start dropping in unexpected places. For example, on day one of the promotion a Knuckle Dragger will drop Gwen's Head. From there, Gearbox will announce daily community goals, like killing a certain type of enemy with that day's special gun. If enough people do it, it'll unlock a "uniquely super-awesome gun" at the week's end.

There will be daily targets for 28 days until the loot hunt ends on 7th November at 5 a.m. ET. Complete all of them for a chance at the $50K grand prize. While the chances of receiving such a plentiful bounty are slim, all players who complete a daily challenge will receive a unique loot drop.

New Borderlands 2 patch protects against Xbox 360 save-corrupting "virus"

A stranger's just a friend you haven't killed.

Last week Gearbox warned players about playing its hit open-world co-op shooter with strangers after a it was discovered that hacking certain save files on the Xbox 360 to unlock a "hardcore mode" resulted in players losing their save files. Anyone killed by these "infected" players met the same fate.

The Texas-based developer just announced a new patch that should put the kibosh on this unfortunate "virus."

As such pro-gamer Matt "BLiTZ" Siegfried, a self-proclaimed "multi-genre/multi-console world champion, speedrunner, high score chaser, tournament player, co-op lover, and OSU [Ohio state University] student," took it upon himself to hit Borderlands 2's level cap before anyone else and record the event for all to see.
