Blood Bowl was originally a tabletop miniatures game released by that most holy of British institutions, Games Workshop, back in the '80s. Yet it wasn't until the third edition dropped in 1994 that Blood Bowl became recognisable as the game it is today. It's set in a version of the Warhammer Fantasy Universe where the many opposing races have decided to lay down their arms and settle their differences by trying to score touchdowns.

Oh boy. It's podcast time. It's time for a podcast - a gaming podcast. Remind yourself of that for the first few (?) minutes of episode 27 in which Chris Bratt and I fail to touch on video games in any meaningful way.
I can't think of a game in which it's more enjoyable to lose than Blood Bowl. When you're 3-0 down inside the second half, the dice are forever against you and the chance of a consolatory touchdown seems increasingly slim, there is always a strategy you can turn to that will rekindle your appreciation for the Orwellian sporting spirit: violent conduct. Not the whiney-bitey nonsense we've seen from the likes of Suarez and Costa, more the kind of full-blooded assault demonstrated by Harald Schumacher (no relation) in the 1982 World Cup semi-final, after which the unrepentant West German goalkeeper, since dubbed the Butcher of Seville, briefly beat Hitler into second place as the most hated man in France.
Blood Bowl 2
Publisher: Focus Home Interactive
The PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release of Blood Bowl 2 has been pushed back to 22nd September 2015.
Focus Home Interactive has released the first gameplay footage of Blood Bowl 2, the video game based on the American Football-themed Warhammer board game.
The video, below, sees the human team Reikland Reavers perform some of the basic moves that make up the core mechanics of the game. Humans are good all-rounders, we're told, but still pack a punch.
Players can perform running, passing, catching, blocking and blitzing moves that combine with 75 different skills, unlocked as your team earns experience.
Cyanide Studio's Blood Bowl 2 will release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as PC, publisher Focus Home Interactive has announced.
Blood Bowl - Warhammer American football - went down pretty well on PC a few years ago. And now there's a sequel. And even more now, there are the first screenshots.
More Warhammer-related video game news: this time Blood Bowl 2 has been announced.
It's been in development at French studio Cyanide for a year, publisher Focus Home Interactive said. Cyanide was the developer of 2009's Blood Bowl, the video game based on Games Workshop's violent American Football-themed Warhammer spin-off board game.
Like Blood Bowl 1, Blood Bowl 2 is a turn-based strategy game. It's in the works for PC. A release window is yet to be announced.
