Ubisoft forecasts lower Assassin's Creed 4 sales than AC3 managed this past financial year

Ubisoft forecasts lower Assassin's Creed 4 sales than AC3 managed this past financial year

Thinks Watch Dogs can match or better AC1's first-year tally of ~6 million.

Ubisoft thinks the Golden Age of Piracy is a stronger theme globally than the American Revolution, but for the sake of being "prudent" has forecast lower sales for Assassin's Creed 4 than AC3 managed this past financial year.

Ubisoft did similar for new cross-generational IP Watch Dogs, with CEO Yves Guillemot forecasting that, "We believe the game can perform as well or even better than Assassin's Creed 1 back in financial year '07." Assassin's Creed 1 managed greater than 6 million sales that year. "However," he added, "our target reflects more conservative expectations," although he didn't say what that was.

Assassin's Creed 3 broke the magical 10 million mark during the financial year ended 31st March 2013, shifting 12.5 million copies - a number comprised of shipped boxes and digital sales.

Assassin's Creed 3: The Tyranny of King Washington DLC release date

The Tyranny of King Washington, a new episodic storyline for Assassin's Creed 3, is set to begin on 19th February, publisher Ubisoft has announced.

That's the PC and Xbox 360 date, anyway. European PlayStation 3 players have to wait until 20th February, and there's no date at all for the Wii U version.

Each part will cost 800 Microsoft Points/£7.99, or it all comes free with the Assassin's Creed 3 Season Pass (2400MP/£23.99). The Pass also includes all pre-order DLC and an expansion for the game's multiplayer - they become essentially free when you tot up the cost of each King Washington episode.

Assassin's Creed 3 sells over 7 million units

Assassin's Creed 3 sells over 7 million units

Ubisoft's fastest-selling game to date. We've spent 82 centuries of gaming time playing it.

Assassin's Creed 3 has sold a whopping 7 million units since it launched at the tail end of October, Ubisoft has announced. This makes it the publisher's fastest selling game ever.

Half of these sales were made during the game's first week on store shelves, as it had sold a whopping 3.5 million only seven days after its release.

Ubisoft also noted some amusing statistic like people have spent a cumulative total of 82 centuries of gaming time in the single player alone, where they've committed more than 3 billion assassinations. The publisher also noted that more than twice as many players have joined the multiplayer mode relative to that of last year's Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Over 250 million assassinations have been performed in over 5 billion multiplayer sessions.

Nintendo confirms German law to blame for Europe-wide Wii U eShop 18+ content restrictions

"We always aim to provide a safe gaming experience for fans of all ages."

Nintendo has explained the restrictions on Wii U eShop 18+ content.

Last week Eurogamer confirmed that Nintendo of Europe blocks access to 18+ content on the Wii U eShop at certain times of day.

We were unable to buy 18-rated content, such as ZombiU and Assassin's Creed 3, during the day time. This, it emerged, was because access to content Nintendo deems unsuitable to minors is restricted to the 11pm to 3am time window on these shores.

Ubisoft details huge Assassin's Creed 3 patch

Around a hundred bugs stabbed.

Ubisoft has unveiled an enormous new patch for Assassin's Creed 3 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The update is scheduled to go live "by the end of next week", the developer wrote on the game's official forum. Around a hundred fixes are included, encompassing the game's main story quests, side missions and multiplayer modes.

A personal bugbear was the fact that the game's Xbox 360 version still showed the icon for Benedict Arnold missions - a feature exclusive to the PlayStation 3 version.

Devs "depressed" at fan fears game would be anti-British.

The upcoming PC version of Assassin's Creed 3 will launch with fewer bugs than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, Ubisoft has reassured.

A new patch is in the works to squash glitches on all versions. It will be the second title update for the game following a meaty patch available day-one.

The PC will launch with both of these patches included, Assassin's Creed 3 community man Gabe Graziani said during a Reddit developer Q&A.

Assassin's Creed 3 sales estimated at over 3.5 million units

Assassin's Creed 3 sales estimated at over 3.5 million units

More than doubles AC: Revelations' first week sales last year.

Ubisoft has estimated that Assassin's Creed 3 has sold over 3.5 million units in its first week out, more than doubling that of Assassin's Creed: Revelations during the same time frame last year.

Unfortunately for the publisher, these figures aren't included in its recent financial report for the six month period ending on 30th September, which ended in a €32.3 million loss. This is par for the course during the spring/summer seasons as all the big money makers come out in Q4 - or get delayed into Q1.

Looking ahead, the developer has several big releases during this time frame. In addition to the aforementioned Assassin's Creed 3, there's Far Cry 3 - which "has achieved among the best playtest scores in Ubisoft's history," according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot - as well as Wii U launch titles Rayman Legends and ZombieU.

Assassin's Creed 3 trailer details Connor backstory

The latest Assassin Creed 3 trailer gives us our best look yet at the origins of new half-Native American, half-British hero Connor.

The assassin-in-training's origins have, so far, remained very much under wraps. But the new footage, shown below, includes glimpses of Connor's life from an early age.

These sections are reminiscent of the early stages from Assassin's Creed 2, when players were getting to know Rennaisance-era dreamboat Ezio for the first time. There's glimpses of several younger versions of Connor, although it is unclear if these sections are playable.

Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed 3 sequels depend on reaction to new hero Connor

"We made three games with Ezio because people loved Ezio."

Ubisoft has said that further Assassin's Creed games featuring new hero Connor could be in the pipeline should gamers warm to the character.

Assassin's Creed 3 will follow a trilogy of titles featuring Renaissance hunk Ezio Auditore, which ended in the slightly lacklustre Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

"We made three games with Ezio because people loved Ezio," Assassin's Creed 3 associate producer Julien Laferrière told Eurogamer. But could he see the same pattern repeating itself for the series' new American Revolution setting?
