First beta event for sci-fi MMO Defiance

Fancy Trion it out?

Multi-platform MMO Defiance will open its doors to its first public beta event later this month.

PC players can sample the sci-fi shooter from 18th January, 4pm UK time until 20th January, 5am UK time.

The weekend event, snappily titled Advanced Mission Beta 1, sees entrants let loose on a futuristic San Francisco bay area. You play as ark hunters, mercenary treasure seekers trying to nab alien technology.

Competitive and co-operative multiplayer will be available across a number of locations. Interested? Then you'll want to sign up for entry over at tie-in site VonbachIndustries.com.

Defiance is due for release in April on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Eurogamer's Oli Welsh previewed the ambitious cross-platform attempt last month - and claimed it "might just work".

There's a Syfy-made TV series on the way too, also due for April. It stars Julie Benz (Buffy), Grant Bowler (True Blood), Jaime Murray (Hustle), and Mia Kirshner (24).
