Here on this page of our Final Fantasy 12 Hunts and Marks guide, we'll be taking you through everything you need to know in order to defeat Deathscythe - a Rank VI Mark for the Dead City Watch Hunt - including the Petitioner and Mark's locations, the Hunt requirements, and strategies for the battle itself.

If you're looking for one of the other Marks however, you can head back to our Final Fantasy 12 Hunts and Marks locations, requirements and strategies hub. For other tips and explainers meanwhile, head to our Final Fantasy 12 The Zodiac Age guide and walkthrough, where we cover plenty more.

Deathscythe and the Dead City Watch Hunt location and requirements

Before you get to the actual battle, here's everything you need to know about Deathscythe and the Dead City Watch Hunt:

  • Prerequisites: complete Draklor Laboratory.
  • Recommended level: 52
  • Petitioner location: Popol, Nalbina Fortress
  • Mark location: Necrohol of Nabudis, Cloister of the Highborn
  • Reward: 2800 Gil, 2 Hi-Ethers, Soul of Thamasa

Popol is sitting on a rug on the west side of Jajim Bazaar in Nalbina Fortress. During your conversation he'll mention that the Deathscyth likes to weaken its victims before consuming them which is a clue on how to summon him.

His location in the Necrohol is more or less in the middle but unless you're also doing Goliath for a twofer we'd recommend approaching from Salikawood as it's marginally safer. When you arrive in the Cloister of the Highborn deal with any smaller enemies you come across but be very careful not to let anyone in your party get to critical HP just yet.

When the coast is clear, turn off any healing gambits you have, stand outside the small room in the middle of the area, and use one of your less powerful weapons to take a party member to critical (we'd suggest using a "spare" party member as they'll probably die from the first attack) - this will summon Deathscythe from whatever Eldritch dimension he was taking a nap in.

Deathscythe strategies and how to defeat it

He'll start off with a few blasts of Darkra, but being Undead he's very weak to Cura, and Bio can eat away at him steadily. His attacks aside, the biggest danger in this fight comes form his use of Annul which will take a chunk of your MP, so either have an "MP less than 10% - Charge" gambit in place or be ready with some Ethers.

At 50% HP he'll temporarily become immune to physical damage but it won't last long, and he'll still be vulnerable to magic attacks so your White Mage will get a nice change of pace and be the heaviest damage-dealer for once.

When he's down return to Popol to collect your reward. He doesn't give you much of value - the Soul can be sold along with 10 Arcana and a Feystone to get a High Arcana, and Hi-Ethers are always nice to have, but it's not quite the jackpot.
