Elden Ring crafting: How to get a Crafting Kit and cookbooks list in Elden Ring

Elden Ring crafting gives you access to all kinds of items wherever you are - provided you have the ingredients.

Once you have found a Crafting Kit, you can start crafting at any time. You'll also need access to cookbooks - which expand the number and types of items you can craft.

This page explains how crafting works in Elden Ring, how to get a Crafting Kit, and from there, where to find early game cookbook locations and what they unlock.

How to get a Crafting Kit in Elden Ring

To get a Crafting Kit, you must visit Kale and the Church of Elleh. This is found just north of the starting location in Elden Ring.

Talk to Kale, and then purchase the Crafting Kit for 300 Runes. With that done, it'll be added to your menu for the rest of the game.

Know that it's worth also buying your first cookbooks from Kale, which allow you to expand the items you can craft. It's worth investigating every merchant you come across, as they will be your primary source of cookbooks.

You can also find them from sourcing the environment, such as from corpses and bandit camps, where you can regularly others.

How to craft in Elden Ring

Unlike levelling or equipping Ashes of War, you can craft anywhere by opening your menu once you have a Crafting Kit.

Open your menu, then select Item Crafting - the second option down.

From here, you'll see all the items you can craft. All you need is a spare Cracked Pot to hold it in, and the required ingredients.

Most early game items require local fauna and flora. As you explore, keep an eye on anything growing on bushes or from the ground - most of it should stick out. Don't forget to search dungeons, too - where many unique ingredients can be discovered.

If you collect everything as you go, chances are you'll have enough to cover most basic items.

Once you have settled on a starting class and starting Keepsake item, you should first work out how to level up, how to respec and use Ashes of War. Need some direction from there? Our Elden Ring walkthrough and Elden Ring boss order can help with where to go next, but we also recommend hunting down Golden Seeds, Sacred Tears, Crystal Tears, Talismans and some of our best weapon and best armor choices. If you are approaching the end game, we can help with the Volcano Manor quest and Rykard, Haligtree Secret Medallion locations, solving the Ordina, Liturgical Town puzzle, the Millicent quest, Commander Niall, Morgott, Godskin Duo, Maliketh and Malenia.
