Double Fine developing Brazen, a Monster Hunter-style game inspired by stop-motion movies

Double Fine has unveiled Brazen, a fully-fledged PC game inspired by the Monster Hunter series and old school Hollywood stop-motion movies.

Brazen is the brainchild of Brad Muir, who previously headed up work on Double Fine's well-received tower defense title Iron Brigade.

Up to four players can take part in class-based online co-op, joining forces to battle mythical creatures inspired by classic films such as the original Clash of the Titans and Sinbad.

"Growing up with my Dad, he really encouraged my imagination through watching those movies with him. All those mythical creatures and beasts in those films are just awesome," Muir explained.

"There's this weird, other-worldly quality in them that's missing from modern day CG and video games. I don't feel there's enough of the craftsmanship that goes into making that stuff."

A prototype version of Brazen has been added to the rewards of Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight, the studio's yearly game jam where team members brainstorm and create new ideas.

This year Double Fine is letting you choose from 23 prototypes put forward by studio members. The four with the most votes will be made into fully fledged games. The rest will be shut down forever.

Signing up to the Amnesia Fortnight (you can pay what you want) gets you access to the four completed games, plus prototype versions of Brazen and earlier games Costume Quest and Happy Song (the game that would become Once Upon a Monster).
