Destiny 2 Hawkmoon quest: All feather locations and how to complete the As the Crow Flies and Loose Thy Talons steps

How to get the Beyond Light exotic Hand Cannon.

Destiny 2's Hawkmoon is an Exotic quest released for Season of the Hunt pass holders in December 2020.

Made available alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series versions of Destiny 2, the Hawkmoon is a Hand Cannon returning from the original Destiny.

To begin, you need to pick up the As the Crow Flies quest from Spider, which first tasks you with finding several feather locations, before finding the Hawkmoon itself and restoring its power.

How to start Hawkmoon quest As the Crow Flies in Destiny 2

First, visit Spider in the Tangled Shore, and pick up the As the Crow Flies quest at the bottom of his inventory screen.

Note - you'll need to have the Season of the Hunt pass to access this quest, and have completed the Hunt for the Wrathborn quest (picked up from Crow, where you embark on your first Wrathborn Hunt) before this appears.

Destiny 2 feather locations for Hawkmoon quest step explained

With the quest collected, you then need to find five Paracausal Feather locations in sequence.

First Feather location

To find the first feather, head to the entrance of Spider's lair. Just before you enter the corridor from the outside, it will be on top of the crate-like object on the right.

Second Feather location

Next, head to The Sludge in the EDZ. Using the fast travel point, head west until you see a hollowed out walkway sticking out of a building.

Leap up here, and on the edge overlooking the area, is the feather.

Third Feather location

Travel to the Cosmodrome. This feather location is right next to where you fast travel in near the vendor.

Specifically, look up for a broken column, where it is situated on top. You'll need to double or triple jump up to get it.

Fourth Feather location

Next, go to The Dreaming City. Head into the giant doorway in the cliff just east of the fast travel point, which would lead you to the Blind Well public event.

On the left, just before you enter on a slightly raised ledge, is the feather.

Final feather location

The final feather is in the Shrine of Oryx on the Moon. To find it, head to Archer's Line and go underground following the path leading to the north east.

Head through the Hall of Wisdom, and then hug the left wall and through the tunnel to the Shrine of Oryx.

To find the feather, there is a large arena at the end of an enemy-filled passage. Go around the central structure, and the feather is on the ground to the other side, just before the outer walkway.

The Season of the Deep is here alongside the Into the Depths quest. You can know go fishing too! Don't forget to keep an eye on the Lost Sector and King's Fall challenge rotation schedule!

Let Loose Thy Talons quest steps in Destiny 2 explained

Once you have found the feathers, return to the Crow in the Tangled Shore, who will give you the A Cry From Beyond mission in the EDZ as part of the Let Loose Thy Talons questline.

It's here you'll find the Effigy of Hawkmoon at the end of the quest. We're not done by any means, as we have a few steps remaining to power it up.

Next, you must strengthen Hawkmoon by collecting and generating 50 Orbs of Power. This is fairly straightforward and will come naturally during the course of play; if you are in a rush, then getting your Super instantly from flags before Public Events in Patrol zones is useful.

After that, return to Crow again, then you'll be given a mission to investigate the marked coordinates in the EDZ. This is another quest similar to A Cry From Beyond, except you must collect feathers as you go - the locations of which are fairly straightforward.

Once you have found as many as you can, you need to then kill the boss Ishrasek, Lightbinder of Savathun to finish the mission.

Following that is a step to defeat Champions or defeat Guardians in Gambit and Crucible matches. The Champions you'll find regularly throughout Patrol zones and various end-game missions, so could be one to have ticking over in the background while you do other things - otherwise jumping into Crucible matches (Mayhem, with its fast turnover, could be good here) is your best bet.

With that done, you have one final mission back on the EDZ - The Crow and the Hawk. This features two combat encounters and a jumping puzzle in-between, and as with other Exotic quests which have debuted during Beyond Light such as Salvation's Grip and The Lament, you'll actually collect Hawkmoon partway through this mission - giving you a welcome opportunity to give it a spin:

How to get the Hawkmoon Catalyst and get new Hawkmoon rolls

Once you have the Hawkmoon, you can improve it further by embarking in the Harbinger mission.

Similar to Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected's Zero Hour, this is a challenging combat and jumping puzzle mission which offers rewards to power up the Exotic - specifically, getting new Hawkmoons with random rolls, a first for an Exotic weapon - as well as unlocking the Catalyst upon completion, which has the following perks:

"Increased magazine size. Grants increased handling, reload speed, and weapon range based on the number of stacks of Paracausal Charge."

Running the Harbinger mission again on later weeks allows you to keep earning new rolls for Hawkmoon, as well as Feathers to unlock an Exotic ship.
