Company of Heroes Online cancelled

THQ pulls plug on WWE Online too.

Real time strategy MMO Company of Heroes Online has been canned, THQ has confirmed.

Speculation was rife that the title could be for the chop following news yesterday that the beta had been closed, and the publisher confirmed the cancellation during an earnings call today.

Its WWE Online MMO has also been put on the scrap heap.

As way of an explanation, THQ said it had "reevaluated its strategy of adapting certain Western content for free-to-play online games in Asian markets."

Developed by Canadian studio Relic Entertainment, Company of Heroes Online went into its beta phase on 2nd September, but that's as far as it will go. It was intended as a massively multiplayer spin-off of the acclaimed 2006 PC strategy title.
