Bungie releases first Destiny concept art as story details leak
"Destiny is designed for your inner seven year old."
Bungie has released the first concept art of Destiny in response to a leak that spilled story details and other images.
Posting the image below on Bungie.net, the Halo creator said: “Go ahead. Take a peek. It's alright. We weren't quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can't wait to finally show you what we've really been up to.
“Stick around, we haven't even started yet.”
The post was a response to a story published by IGN that included more detail on the Activision-published universe.
An advertising agency document, passed to IGN by a reader, contained plot details and high-level franchise information.
“Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man's Golden Age,” reads the document. “A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it's here for, but only that it's our protector.
“Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young 'knights' tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and - eventually - overcoming it.”
The massive alien ship is referred to as “the Traveler”.
Destiny is described as “fun and accessible to all”. It aims to “create a universe as deep, tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise”. “Destiny is designed for your inner seven year old,” says Bungie co-founder Jason Jones. “We want to make it feel like a mythic adventure.”
The gameplay is “social at its core” offering “a world to explore with friends, both old and new”.
The document includes a Destiny logo alongside the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 icons. The URL Destiny.com is also mentioned. Right now, that's password protected, but it is owned by Bungie. Is Destiny the final name of the game?
